    It is a Satellite A135-S4666 PC Notebook

    Well, I used PC PitStop optimizer scan and it stated things it would change for $30 bucks, for better performance.

    If I can do it myself then I save $30.

    Do you want to see what they are suggesting?

Hi glenda - be sure you know what you're doing because you can really mess up your system. Sorry but I have to tell everyone that just in case. Bavkup your registry before you do anything, once again just in case. To edit your registry follow these steps:

1) From start in the searc box type regedit
Vista Basic - f3da08d.jpg
2)Click on regedit in the search result to open registry editor.

2)If looking for a particular subkey you can easily navigate through the subkey if you know what you are looking for. Or, you can press "Ctrl + F" to locate the subkey that contains the value you want to edit. (F3 to Find Next)

Don't forget backup first. If you're just looking to clean up you're reg there are plenty of free tools like registry booster. Good luck and thanks. If this answered your question PLEASE rate this as fixed. If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks glenda.

    Hi glenda - If there's any way possible that you can afford $30 for a 1 year subscription I would do it. I would think every expert on here has paid for a registry tool. I'm on Disability but I scrounge up the $30 each year for Registry Mechanic which is one of the if not the best out there. I don't know the last time you ran a registry scan but if you've had your pc a while and haven't done it in quite a while you might get a 100 errors especially with a good program. Even if you use a free one, I scan mine at least once a week and find at least 5 or 6 errors. If you attempt to edit the registry every time odds are that eventually you'll make a mistake and could really cause problems. So in conclusion:

    1)If you can afford it, pay for one. Like I said I use Registry Mechanic. If you get that don't get anything else they'll offer you. You can get the other things free.

    2)If money is really an issue and you just can't afford it, send me an email at [email protected] I think I may be able to help you out.

    You can post the list of problems that PC PitStop found if you want and I'll take a look at it but like I said you'd have to edit your reg every week. I Don't know anyone that does that when they can run a program that will do it in 2-3 minutes. Read my notes and get back to me or send an email if you wish. Thanks.

If you are referring to the "Shortcut Arrows" at the corner of the icons, then

For OS: Vista & Win 7 refer to this Link

For OS: Win XP refer to this Link

Note: Word of caution, Editing the Registry may result your System unbootable if it is done incorrectly. Always backup your registry first before the editing the registry.

Hope it what you are refering.

My copy of Vista Basic says it's not genuine, but it is. I know you can fix this by editing the registry, but I'm not comfortable doing that. Any simpler way? I'm an intermediate/basic computer user.

Send an E-MAIL to Microsoft and explain the problem; they will tell you the easy way to re-activate or even upgrade Vista Basic. This happens more often than you might think; I think there is a known bug in Vista that causes this problem.

Contact Microsoft and you can easily get this fixed; problem solved.

While i installing vista transformation pack 9.1 an error comes that "scrdr.exe" in use & option comes abort, retry, ignore what to do?

Go to Start->Run

Type msconfig

Go to the startup tab. Find that particular file it's looking for an uncheck it. See if that helps.

If it continues, it is probably in your registry. You'll have to find the key in your registry ("regedit" in the run menu.)

Here are the registry keys:

* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Win... Hidden value:
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Win... DisableTaskMgr value:
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Win... DisableRegistryTools value:
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Windows X\Vista Transformation Pack ResolutionBPP 32
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Windows X\Vista Transformation Pack ResolutionX 1024
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Windows X\Vista Transformation Pack ResolutionY 768
