Question about West Bend (58036) 36-Cup Coffee Maker

How does it make coffee?

I just purchased a vintage West Bend Chef Ware Coffee Pot--marked on the bottom Catalog No 3648E. It has level marks of 24 cups or 36 cups on the top piece of the coffee maker. Is this a drip coffee maker & how do I make coffee in it. Clueless,...

You fill it to the line indicating how many cups of coffee you want to make. Then you add coffee to the brew basket, at least 1 full heaping teaspoon per cup. Put the basket on top of the stem and place the stem into the coffee maker. Put the lid on and plug it in. That's it. Don't plug it in without the lid, it's a percolator. It will squirt the water out the top of the stem and it flows down through the coffee grounds.

If it's a two-container unit, it's circa 1950 or so. It should have a detachable metal base that has the plug, a High/Low switch and heats up. Then, the bottom serving container (with glass level gauge and spigot) fits onto that. The top container fits onto the bottom container. On some there is a "perforated disc" (mine has perforations in the bottom of the upper container). Put in the perforated disc. Place ground coffee onto that. Put the inner "lid" (they call it a "water spreader") snugly over the coffee grounds. Having heated up water to a rolling boil in another container(s), pour in the water to the desired level (marked on the sides). Put the upper container's outer lid on. When it starts to drip plug it in. . . and there ya go. For a PDF of the directions with a diagram of the unit call Focus Electrics (they bought West Bend) at 1-866-290-1851. They only have the PDF file on this. They are very nice and helpful.

I need a wiring diagram for a west bend 33600 coffee pot

I would be suprissed if West Bend has that information, most companies only sell external parts and very rarely have wiring diagrams unless it is a expensive commercial appliance.

I would contact West Been Directly, their number is 800-688-1989.

Here is a link to the instruction manual on their site, it might have some helpful information.

Also here is a link to the parts page on their site: 33600 Large Coffee Urn 100 Cup

Do you have to boil water in something else first

No, it's an electric coffee pot, it heats the water and makes the coffee simultaneously.

Need owner's manual for a West Bend 57870 coffee maker

Manual Not Listed On Website, but Information on Coffee Amount is.

Coffee Amounts

How much coffee should I use?

4-Cup Quik Drips - We recommend using 1 tablespoon automatic drip or ""all grind"" coffee for each cup being made. You can adjust the amount to suit your personal preference but DO NOT USE MORE THAN 2 TABLESPOONS per cup being made. If more than 2 tablespoons per cup are used flooding of the basket may occur.

10 and 12 Cup Quik Drips - We recommend using 1 tablespoon automatic drip or ""all grind"" coffee for each cup being made. If making less than 4-cups of coffee, add an extra tablespoon of coffee for better flavor. You can adjust the amount of coffee used to suit your personal preference.
