I bought a Barbie Sewing Machine at a garage sale and did not get a manual. I'm not sure how to thread it and don't understand how the bobbin works.

How do you thread the bernina 1230

You can probably use the manual for the 1260. Sewing machines basically thread alike from one model to the next.

One thing to remember: ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread! This will help prevent those dreaded thread nests under the fabric.

Thread breakage

Before you do anything try lengthening your stitches. Then if that doesn't work.. make sure your needle if fully seated in it's holder and is the correct needle for your machine and application.

Try to remember that there is no such thing as a "universal needle" In your instruction manual, there should be a chart that suggest needle and thread combos for different types of fabric.

Then make a note in the manual when you find the right combo for your application.

Manual for overlocker

Looks a lot like my Juki MO-104. To thread this thing remember this sequence.

Upper Looper, Lower Looper, then needle(s)

Open the front panel to get to your lower loopers and I think there should be a threading diagram inside on the door. Then always have test fabric that matches your project fabric. Sew a 3 " seam, check the seam.... adjust tension. If you want to get really good at seeing what's what in tension is doing thread each thread with a different color. To do your test stitches.

I've not found a manual that doesn't cost.

I inherited my mother's Tiptronic 2040, and needed to sew a simple seam. I admit to not having much experience. I have re-threaded it several times,; re-worked the bobbin but the top thread keeps getting...

Deep breath. Ohmmmmm.... ok now.

Few things you need to know.

1. Try to remember TTN when you run into problems like this it stands for Thread, Tension, Needle. Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as universal thread and needles. You'll need to determine what kind of thread and needle is best for your application.

2. When things gets bunched up under the fabric it Usually means that the tension for the top thread is too loose. However, a bad, bend or just plain wrong needle will cause these problems too.

3. Always grasp the threads (both top and bottom) and pull gently backwards when starting a seam. Some old school seamstresses and seamsters say to make sure your needle is at its upper most position (just before it starts to move down) before you begin sewing.

4. since you've had a couple instances with this issue... you might have to clean the bobbin race area. I'm a bit reluctant to tell you about this but remove the bobbin and look carefully for other stray threads, dust bunny's etc.

I hope this helps some. ;o)

My singer starlet 353 is giving problems. The thread keeps breaking and I have no instruction book. Please advise which settings I should have each control on to do both overstitch and regular stitch for...

Remember that early Singer machines would only sew properly with number 40 or 50 mercerised thread, anything else and all sorts of things happen, top tension should be about 4 or 5
