Upgrade to Win 7 is the economical answer for you (upgrades can be lower priced than full version install AND you have your programs and files saved for use on a UPGRADE only NOT a new installation of WIN 7 that wipes over your old operating system), or reinstall the other system xp tablet edition.

Toshiba Tecra M4-S435 is Tablet PC. Windows XP (Profession) has no option of touch screen.
In order to use the feature, you need to install Windows XP Tablet PC Edition or you may install Windows 7, which supports this feature and you would definately be able to use stylus and touch screen, as I have installed Windows 7 and its working fine with all the drivers etc.

    i have win7 installed on my tecra and my touch screen is still not working. i have been dealing with issues with this for a while now. getting very aggrivated.

Press F8 Just after you press the power button.
a window will open select safe-mode use the arrow keys to select and hit enter .then safely restore the computer using system restore.or uninstall the graphics Driver from control panel.the drivers that you were going to install was digitally signed?
this thing usually happens when you install an unsigned driver . click her to know hot to use system restore

I would look on ebay for a smashed one first.
or one with a malfunctioning screen. When I did an e-bay search for your model It came back with 509 results. The bottom link is a repair specialist for that kind of notebook.

The video card has unseated or is fried due to overheating. The typical repair is to replace the entire motherboard which will cost about US$600 from a technician. The graphics chip GPU is soldered onto the motehrboard. I ahve heard some people cooking the GPU to reflow the solder if it is an unseated GPU chip that came loose but I have not tried this myself. This is a common problem of Tecra M4's and I have been through this problem 4 times in the past 4 years, each with expensive motherboard replacements.

Toshiba tecra M2 LCD Screen
A pinkish tint is indication that the backlight tube inside the screen is not fully lit. But then it goes black - meaning the tube shut down? That part don't make much sense - it's certainly possible, though.

Replacing tubes is pretty surgical so I wouldn't recommend it. Replacing the screen should be pretty darn easy. A good, used screen should be pretty cheap on eBay, so that's where I'd start.
