Cannot perform administrator tasks. It asks for a password and I never set one.

If it is asking for a password then it must have been set during setup!

The only way is to reinstall the windows 7 and make sure password is not set!

How to reset password

Try logging in without a password (hit enter). It just may be the screen saver locking it.
Ask if anybody (that has access to system) if they set a password.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lost Windows password:

  • Log in as Administrator (try safe mode if you don't see Administrator). Again no password.
  • Login as other user (if other user is availible) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
  • Reformat computer.
  • Use 3rd party software to remove password. Like http://www.top-password.com/reset-windows-password.html

I have an old pc by brother gasme me from his work. It had a password on it, from the previous user, which i was using. I decided to try and just take this off. I removed the passwords from the use

First thing I'd try is to log on as the local administrator:
username: administrator
password: (empty)

If that doesn't work and you really can't log in AT ALL, you can reset the administrator password . Download Pete Nordahl's Boot-CD (here), burn it to a CD and boot your computer with the CD in the drive (Depending on the PC you might have to tap the F2 or F12 key when booting to get to the boot menu, where you can set it to boot from CD.)
On XP, do NOT change the administrator's password, just reset it (to empty)
Don't forget to "write to disk" at the end of the process.
Remove the CD when done, reboot and log in as "administrator".

Let me know if this works for you or if you need more details.
And read the FAQ (link)!

What is the administrator password of acer aspire 5738Z?

There is no default password for Administrator user.
Normally you can set the Administrator during installation. If you don't know or you didn't install the system yourself ask who install the windows for the password.

I have a toshiba tecra 8100 laptop that I inheritated from my older brother from when he was in college. He doesnt remember the password and lost the recovery disks. How can I get in or factory reset it?

If this computer has Windows XP on it, you can start it in safe mode and log on as administrator. Most people never bothered to set a password for the administrator account. If you can do this, you're in! If not, well--we'd have to go through a different process but you'd need a system disk.
