the beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active until turned off.
make sure that your RAM is securely seatedjust replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems
hope this helps

I have a Buffalo hard drive 500 gb, it has just stopped working green light comes on and it sounds like it is fireing up but stops light stays green no autoplay through my laptop I have also tried on other...

The power-supply seems OK, since you can hear it spinning, and the lamps are lit.

So, either the USB-to-disk-drive interface has failed, or the disk-drive itself has failed.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in some desktop computer, to see if it works, when you bypass that 'USB' interface.

I have a LaCie d2 Quadra 500 gb. external hard drive. It is just over three years old. Recently, it suddenly stopped working. No light or fan when powered up, and the hard drive does not spin. No longer...

Hello,
this drive rarely has a power switch issue beside the fact that sometimes it gets misaligned and cannot be properly put in the ON position because of the aluminum casing. If you tried powering on while the backplate is removed and still nothing, look at the soldering of the power switch. If the switch connectors are still all in place, the problem lies more with the power module.
A total lack of power would usually result from the power module being "cooked", so look at traces of burned and cracked chips near the power supply connector on the interface board. If all seems good, make sure the power connector is also correctly soldered.
If the power module is burned, you can replace the interface by buying a used one, but in most cases it is easier and cheaper to buy another enclosure like you did.

Green light, followed by yellow light flashes 5 times, then green again. Print screen says operator error, press printer's resume button.

Hi there
You can try not really know but it like your waste ink needs to be reset.

Start with the printer OFF

1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
2. Release RESUME
3. Press RESUME twice, then release POWER
4. Wait until print head stops moving
5. Press RESUME four times (if four doesn't work try three times)
6. Press POWER once
7. Press RESUME four times (if four doesn't work try three times)
8. Press POWER once

Repeating the RESUME/POWER code twice made the difference, the fixes I found wouldn't work because they stopped at step 6.

Doesn't spin & Power light flashes red to green

This situation indicates a problem with the built-in self tests. Most likely a power supply failure. I don't believe it is economically feasible to replace the power supply. If it is still under warranty, I'd go through the procedure to get it repaired/replaced. Otherwise, you'll need to replace the unit.
