Is there a filter in Kenmore Dishwashers that need rinsing or changing? Our dishwasher seems to be backing up, leaving "silt" on the dishes. I empty the screen on the door, but residue has built up elsewhere.

Water flow problems are what cause streaks, silt or cloudy dishes. The water flow problems can be caused by several things:
1. Clogged spray arm holes (Clean wash arms)
2. Sump inlets that are blocked with debris or plastic (Clean inlets)
Most probable cause.... follows:
3. POOR DRAIN FUNCTION ( a. Inspect all parts of the drain going backward from the sink connection
1) The sink connection is uaually at the side of garbage disposal. Remove the hose from the actual sink connection and clean out the port.
2) The AIR-GAP is the where 75% of the drain restrictions mainfest. Lift off the Air-Gap cover then unscrew the inner cap nut NOTING the installed position of the inner cap because you can only install it ONE WAY. Lift off the cap and remove an debris inside. Use a flashlight and inspect for any debris deep inside the Air Gap,
3) Inspect the Drain hose from the Air Gap to the Dishwasher drain hose connection for any kinks or folds. If you note wither a kink or a fold take a stick over the outside of the hose like you were putting on a splint.
4) Remove the drain hose from the dishwasher connection and inspect for debris. Clean as necessary. Just note there is power under the dishwasher that can reach out and grab you so make sure the power is off before working under the dishwasher.

Reassemble everything power it up, use the Jet Dry basket type even if you have a rinse dispensor. Please let me know how the dishes turn out.

The problem is most likely that there is still water residue at the bottom of your machine. If the machine is not fully drained it picks up some of the residue and sprays that onto the dishes during the final rinse, leaving an unhealthy and unsightly film on everything.
Remove the bottom strainers plates and make sure that the outlet pipe is not kinked, that there is nothing obstructing the pipe or the pump or selector valve. If possible back flush through the outlet pipe and try draining the machine once more before using it again.

Talking about a kenmore 665.16389300 dishwasher. the "normal wash" button is blinking, but none of the other buttons seem to work and the cleaning cycle will not start when i press the...

Hi
Open the door. Within 3 seconds press the following sequence --Try pressing normal wash, heated dry, normal wash, heated dry, normal wash, heated dry three times within 6 seconds and then press cancel to reset the dishwasher. If that doesn't help then try pressing Saini Rinse, Heated Dry, Saini Rinse, Heated Dry, Saini Rinse, Heated Dry or Saini Rinse, Air Dry, Saini Rinse, Air Dry, Saini Rinse, Air Dry 3 times in 6 seconds and then the Cancel Button. Close the door and press Cancel.
Blinking lights would stop and should be able to use your dishwasher normally. If the light is still blinking try and reset the power to the dishwasher and try again. If still the light is blinking then check for the connections on the keypad, it may be due to moisture or shorted connections on keypad. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Dishes are not rinsing clean - leaving film and soap scum - seems as if not enough water preasure for rinse cycle or cables are clogged

I suspect that something has changed, say your water has become different if your water authority has changed the added chemicals or the source for your water supply. Another thing is the hot water heater may not be heating your water sufficently to do a through washing. This could happen if one of your heating elements have malfunctioned unless you heat water with gas. Also did you change your dishwasher detergent? Adding a rinse chemical to the cycle may help.

Our Kenmore 665 was leaving white flecks on dishes and glasses

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

Dishwasher

I have seen this problem before on a couple of dishwashers.

How are the dishes doing? Are they coming out clean, or do some of them "fail".

If you rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, it may be hard to detect "failure" to clean. Try not rinsing the dishes once and run them through a cycle. My guess is that the "failure" rate will be high.

The problem I have seen is that the dishwasher water input filter is either clogged or the water-full sensor is "telling" the unit that there is enough water in before it actually fills properly.

So, some water can get in, but not enough to properly wash the dishes and dissolve the soap.

On the appliance repair sites they have parts breakdown details and what you are looking for is an input valve assembly -- the point just after the water line connects to the dishwasher.

Now the valve may be OK, but the feedback system could be bad.

(On a Bosch dishwasher the valve IS the feedback system and the filter.)

Any filtering or "water full" signal will feed back to that valve.

If you get inside that front lower panel, be sure to turn the electricity off first 'cause if you get crosswise in that area you could end up with a 'shocking' experience!

good luck

Dishes not rinsing well,

I would check the bottom drain area. Sometimes food can stay down there and block the drain or get back around onto the next load.

Bosch dishwasher leaving residue

You either need a water valve, if the dishwasher isn't filling with enough water, or you need to run a dishwasher cleaner through it.
