SOURCE: Frost build-up causes cooling to stop

Sounds to me like a intermittent defrost timer not advancing.
It is located behind the plastic cover over the controls.
Remove the switch knobs, then remove the cover. The defrost timer access is on the right hand side. You can turn it with a flat blade screwdriver. Turn SLOWLY clockwise until the compressor kicks OFF. That is when the defrost heater is energized.
After a few minutes you may be able to hear a sizzling sound from the freezer. That would be defrost water hitting the defrost heater.
If it does the defrost at this point, replace the timer. about $30.00

SOURCE: My whirlpool refrigerator (8 years old) is not cold and hums

Possible of 3 reasons.

1) Defrost bimetal is open and not allowing power to heater element in evaporator coil in freezer.

2) Defrost timer is not going into defrost, motor stopped moving.

3) Evaprator fan motor is not rotating. Possible motor.

First check for frost in the back panel of the freezer section.
if there is frost and the fan is operating, would suggest manually putting unit into defrost, depending on particular model. may be a switch you can move with a standard screw driver to get the fans and compressor to shut off. If you find this either. Top of fridge in refrigerator section below temperature selection controls. Or remove toe plate, the pretty decor under the door. and it will be in there.

If this is an electronic style, look under that toe kick and there is a technician's sheet that will explain how to get into defrost.

Allow 10 minutes for heater to heat, listen for water sizzling on heater element. if this does work. you will need the defrost timer.

Hope this helps.

Freezer building up with frost

Sounds like the defrosting system has a faulty timer/board, faulty heating element or bad electrical connections to these components.

More info, let me know...

hi..Sounds like one of the solenoids is acting up.Solenoids are
electromechanical devices that can be used to turn the water
to the ice maker on/off and also operate the door/screw that
dispenses ice.It could also be a fan or motor that is making
the noise.
check it out..

Sub zero 550 (14 years old) has a small but steady leak onto floor from freezer compartment. Small amount of frost buildup on inside of door. Food is frozen and the door "appears" to seal we

Right hand side wall in the freezer - take a look- any frozen water or moisture? Need check a drain line, usually defrost heater inside the freezer wall getting bad and draining water just freezing inside of it.

Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator

I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........

In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.

Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.

Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)

Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.

Ice in freezer compartment

I have seen this problem with the LG freezer unders. There is a air leak that is getting into the freezr allowing the moisture to frost up at the back of the freezer. It will form frost all over too. Since your unit is 8 month old call Lg and let them deal with the problem. At my last Lg training the problem is with the air damper in the fresh food section may not be closing fully. So Call for service.
