The television turns on but the screen remains black. i can get it to change channel, lower or raise volume, and i dont have the remote for it. please help.

if manually changes .....then try another remote..because its keys not working..or open remote and clean it.

Check its backlight inverter board, and CCFL lamps. In most cased, the back-light inverter board might need replacement. Check all the CCFL lamps too for any black edges.

two choices, get the keyboard on the set repaired or get an original sharp remote which among remotes is not too expensive.

Open the thing up and clean off all the dirt on the volume buttons with a dry rag and clean the remote sensor.  Put in fresh batteries and now give it a try.

Most televisions and monitors have a menu button next to the power, volume, and channel buttons on the face, top, or side of the set. It can be a pain but you can usually press the menu button to bring the menu up and then select and change settings by pressing menu again to choose a setting and using the channel and/or volume up and down buttons to raise or lower the setting. The exact function varies based on the set so you may need to fiddle around a bit. Unfortunately some sets do require the remote to perform some functions.

You have inadvertently activated one of the closed-caption modes called T1 or Text 1. Find out how to turn the closed-captioning off and on and you'll be able to turn this off.

if there's a channel and volume display but no picture,the problem of your tv is ABL..it is a resistor value from 10K ohms up

With black box, get the TV's remote and turn OFF the "closed caption". You are in the text of your cc. Good Luck, big IRISH.

Check the voltage to the relay, usually 12v dc. Also check the relay or replace as it may be stuck after the tv warms up. The micro chip for functions could be locking up. Try spraying a little freeze spray directly on chip after tv is locked up see if this unlocks, if it does you have a bad micro chip.
