When picture is getting smaller in size or goes away or moves towards one side then hit your TV lightly on left side or right side or on top & then observe ..........you will get normal picture or it comes & again it goes....if it is happening like that then following is the situation..........after 4 or 5 yrs in some TVs on main board at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact picture becomes small in size or disappears ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again picture appears for some time............so solution is ......TV main board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting TV lightly if there is no response then main board has to be checked completely........in your case iam sure it is loose connection problem.........joints should be re - soldered ...100% it works again................this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other tools....................so contact good TV service engineer

Basically i have an older rear projection model mitsubishi not sure of the model #, it is currently having lines run from top to bottom like waves on the picture screen! is there anything you can tell me...

Many different mitsubishi's have problems with voltage regulators going out and causing wavy diagonal lines that scroll the picture from top to bottom or vice versa. Without a model number it's difficult to clarify.

Split screen, kind of inverted w/white wavy lines

It is a calibration problem, let me see if I can find some schematics for your tv.

is that wavy in vertical motion? and bending?  in that case maybe you have low voltage in your power inlet! or can you specify the color of wave and motion, if horizontal or vertical?

Video distortion

You need to take your tv in and have the picture deflector re-aligned.  This doesn't cost much, My dad had to do that to his a few months ago and it cost 30 bucks.

The Picture on my Mitsubishi vs-60805 "shrank" then disappeared

it isnt worth it, your verticle diflection is out, that board is about 3-4 hundred, and you would probabily need a service center do it(messing with like 30000 volts)and they will probabily charge around 200

Shrinking picture..

Vertical circuit problem. VERY common on Mitsubishi sets for past 30 years. The capacitors are getting weak. Have it checked out, aslong as the picture was good and clear before the problem. That just means the tubes are still O.K. Mitsubishi's ALL have bad capacitors all over them. Been like that for ever. If you wait too long, the caps will leak onto the circuit board and "eat" the circuit traces. It should be checked ALL over for bad caps and then have the convergance chips replaced with original sanyo made replacements.Very inportant! Take the time to find a good repairshop in your area. Talk to other people to see who they use. You're talking about $400.00 to do everything, but it will last for years after that. If you like the set, it's worth it. Just be honest to your-self when evaluating the quaility of picture you had and get a good repair shop. That's the best advise I can give you. Good-Luck.

TV screen shrinking from top to bottom.

My Dearest, j30;

It sounds like you have a problem in the 9 volt circuit which feeds the vertical output ciruit; CHECK C2P05 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P01 AND IC2P01 PART # 270P466020 (9-VOLT REGULATOR). BOTH ARE ON THE SIGNAL PCB.
This is not a repair that a novice should try, but if you call a factory authorized service center and have them come out and give you an estimate; AND tell them what the problem is, you will look know what you are talking about!

Mitsubishi VS-60707 60 in. Rear Projection Television

When it gets better after warm up it can be a capacitor in the 160 Volt high voltage circuit or a cold solder joint. these 2 thinks would be my best guess on this set.
