I guess you've got a broken laptop power dc jack or power cable.

Symptoms of a broken Laptop DC power jack:

- The laptop only operates when you hold the DC power plug in a certain direction (DC jack is broken or loose).
- The laptop only runs on battery power (no power is getting through the DC jack).
- The laptop gets no power at all.
- The laptop will not charge the battery.
- The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently due to a loose or broken power jack.
- The laptop suddenly shuts off.
- The DC jack may feel loose.
- Sparks come out of the back of the laptop when you insert the power plug into the DC jack.

My gateway netbook wont charge, they sent me a new battery but again it will not charge, what could be wrong?

Hello,

The problem might be either from the charger or from the laptop.

To confirm and repair if it is the charger, all you have to do is to plug the charger on another laptop to see if it will charge, if it does not charge, then you know the fault is from the charger, and the solution is for you to replace it with a new one, before you replace it, try to connect another power cord to the charger, because sometimes the power cord might have been burnt, that have happened to me twice and replacing the power cord solved the problem. But if replacing the power cord does not help, then you need to change the power cord.

To confirm and repair if it is the laptop, plug in a new charger to the laptop, if it does not charge, then you need to understand that the charging port of the laptop is faulty and needs to be replaced, have a repairman replace the charging port for you.

Take care and good luck

The gateway mx6424 will not charge the battery and will not run from adapter with the dead battery installed or removed. Output voltage of adapter is 19 volts. Is the mother board charging circuit fried?

It could just need reset! Try taking out the battery, take cord out, press the power button for over 2 minutes, then replace battery & cord, & see if it works. Worked for mine for awhile. Before it got this bad, did it sometimes work & sometimes not? If you wiggled the cord before, did it sometimes work? I ask because if so, it's possibly/probably the connection with the PC, where the cord joins PC. This is a common problem, which can be fixed by you or a technician. If by a tech, it may cost more than it's worth. There is a site online that actually gives you every tiny move & every single screw on a video, to replace the connection by yourself. Google it. I haven't tried it yet, but looks pretty easy. I have same problem with a Dell, which I may do myself. (it isn't my main PC, so I put it off. :)

Laptop will not charge. After wiggling the cord

That's a short in the power input section of the motherboard- I've found, much to my dismay, that the power input/charging circuit on these laptops is not a separate circuit board as it is on some other models, but is a small area of the motherboard itself. You'll either need to have someone repair the motherboard or replace it entirely.

Plugged in and not charging

have you wiggled the power cord? I did this and saw sparks...then I knew I needed a new power cord. I ended up getting a Universal one at Walmart for about $78.00. Well worth it.

Have a Gateway Laptop Computer Model #MT6708. Previously computer had blank screen and no power. Currently purchased new battery and power cord. Computer now operating screen and power is on. However, when...

First thing check that the battery charge light is on when the battery and the charger are connected.
If it is it indicates that the power supply is charging the battery,
If it isnt it may indicate a fault with the battery or that the charger is not compatable with the laptop or that there is a fault with the charger.
If the battery is charging then try running the laptop on battery only without the charger and on charger only without the battery.
This will eliminate which one is faulty.

You mentioned that if you wiggle the cord then the light comes on again.
Check to see if the charger end plug is lose or the actual port on the laptop is lose.
If the charger plug is lose then return to seller and make sure they gave you the correct charger. if the actual port on laptop is lose then perhaps u got a bad connection and you need electrician or local laptop technician to open it up and solder properly on motherboard.

Let me know how it goes.

Satellite P35-S611 has trouble charging

If you have to wiggle the power cord it is most likely the DC jack on the motherboard. It is usually the center pin in the the jack that breaks the solder point and the small tension band inside the jack housing weakens.

Doesnt stat up and no light showing charge

Hi,
Here's one way to determine the problem.
Take the battery out and try to boot on AC power only, if it boots turn it back off, reinsert the battery again and try to boot.
Sometimes you just have to take the battery out and plug it back in again, with others it is the battery and you have to leave then out until a replacement is bought.
If it still won't boot on AC only, remove and reinsert the memory, try to boot the computer and listen for any beeps.
Post back if you need further assistance.

Good luck.

Computer works by Battery only but not A/C cord

Your DC Jack Is Most Likely Failing From What You Describe....
The DC Jack Is The Port Where Your Charger Cord Plugs Into..
If Wiggled Enough, It Will Pry Loose From The Motherboard And Eventually It Will Begin To Short Out The Power, If Left Unrepaired, It Will Eventually Lose All Means Of Charging/Powering On Due To The Solder Being Burnt Away From The Positive Pins That Connect To The Mainboard....

You Might Want To Test Your AC Adapter With A Multimeter For Positive Power and Correct Voltage .. Sometimes A Broken Cord Will test Good If The Break Is Making Contact when testing....
So When Testing the cord... Slightly wiggle it to see if indeed there is a break in it or not...
