Where can i get software to transfer video from my sony CCD-TRV27E to a windows 7 laptop.......or is there no such thing?

Check if you have a Firewire port that is either a 6pin or 4 pin port that looks like

Use a firewire IEEE 1394 cable kit and appropriate software too transfer to PC. Most firewire to usb cable will not work.
You will need a
1. Firewire cable
2. Firewire port on PC/Laptop as well.
3. Recent OS that supports firewire.
4. Appropriate image/video editing software.

Here is a link to make sure you have the proper drivers. Also, Sony recommends (for your specific camcorder and operating software) that you transfer with the use of an i-link cable versus usb.

I understand that you wish to transfer recordings from the Camcorder to the a computer. Since the CCD TR517 is an analog Camcorder, driver and software from the manufacturer is not required to transfer videos. You can connect the A/V output of the Camcorder to the A/V input on the Computer and use the Windows Movie Maker software available with the Windows Operating System to capture the videos. Connect the camera to a pc and convert by using software available free on the internet.

your sony ccd-trv 108 will transfer videos(stream) to a computer using firewire connection. install the supplied software or use any program compatible for streaming like windows movie maker. use a firewire cable. check your computer for a firewire port(port with IEEE symbol) make sure that the tape is totally rewounded then press the record button on windows movie maker as the same time as you play the video from the camcorder. (its basically playing the entire video in order for windows movie maker to record it.

I'm glad to inform you that the Camcorder can playback old 8mm tapes.

Sony CCD-TRV138 is analog video-8 camcorder that can not be hooked directly with computer because computer needs digital data file where as this camcorder is an analog and has no digital file format.

If you want to transfer CCD-TRV138 movies in computer, you need to convert its analog Audio-Video signal into digital format then save it in computer for further process/ edit etc.

Hook CCD-TRV138 with DVD Recorder in AV Input and burn a DVD, this process will convert analog movie into digital data format, put that CD in your computer and copy-paste files in computer.

With laptop and camera on, try unplug the usb from the camera, wait a few secs, then re-plug.
The task-bar or desktop should show device detected after a while.
If not, you may need Firewire connection instead of USB.
