I need to know what model of a Motorola DVR is compatible with my receiver. What model can connect DIRECTLY from it's audio output to the audio input of my STA-795 Optimus Digital receiver (not through the TV) and be able to adjust volume within the DVR box. The DVR video connection is connected to a High Definition Samsung TV. The TV has only one set of audio output and I am using it to connect to a DVD Player.

Do you really have TV Audio OUT to a DVD (last sentence)?

Most DVR's have digital and analog audio outputs. Since every device they are intended to feed would have its own volume control a DVR output volume control might be redundant. Treat a DVR like any other audio device. Connect it to any available input on the receiver EXCEPT PHONO.

If you run the audio from the DVR (and EVERY video source) directly to the STA-795 you can bypass the TV and its questionable audio electronics (yuk). You can split the analog output of the DVR with y-cables and run it from the DVR to TO the TV for casual viewing and listening through the TV sound system (news, Oprah, etc).

I have ATV INPUT to my T.V. not output... Sorry, I was REALLY tired when I wrote my question. Ha! My issue is the DVR I brought home-and already returned- from my local cable company(Cox Cable). When I run the video to my TV and the audio to my receiver the volume bars show up on my TV screen but the volume doesn't change. I can only mute the TV. My receiver has no remote. I don't want to walk to the TV each time I need to adjust the volume. The AUX choice of the Cox Cable universal remote control won't work for me either because the remote's codes aren't accepted by the receiver, and remotes no longer exist for my receiver. The cable company says I have to run the audio to the TV and use the "TV" option on the remote for volume adjustment. I don't want to use my TV for the volume. I want to use my floor speakers. I can run the video from my current HD Digital cable box to my TV and run the audio to my receiver and the current cable box via remote control will adjust the volume for all TV viewing. Perfect. Cox Cable says their DVRs won't do that for me. I thought that sounded rather odd, so I asked you gurus the question to see if I could find a DVR that Cox owns...(probably has to be a Motorola) that might actually work for me. AAARRRGGGHHH :)

So you're apparently content with the remoteless, stereo-only STA receiver . WHEN you get into multichannel digital audio and have a remote you'll see that volume control wasn't the only thing you lacked.

How do i hook-up my vcr to my cable dvr to record saved shows

Hi,
In order to record from VCR to DVR You need to connect "VCR audio/video output RCA jacks " to" DVR 's Audio / Video Input RCA jacks.. ..
use either "RCA analog (red/white+ yellow ) " or "optic " cable.(any standard optical cable )..if exist .optic is the best way to connect it..Remember your VCR 's "OUT" goes into" IN "of DVR ..
pls also remember, wherever you connect your VCR on your DVR ,you should switch the source selector accordingly to correspond to the connection on the back...
Now you can record anything on DVR which played in VCR ..
Hope this helps!..if more help requires pls let me know.
Take care and please

I have a 55" LG

Easy solution; this is a very common problem. Connect Cable or satellite box / DVR directly to one of the TV HDMI inputs. Connect an optical audio cable from that box to receiver so sound is surround through your speakers. You cannot connect DVR directly to receiver because the anti pirating chip will shut off the picture and produce a green or no screen at all.
You can, however, connect a BD (Blu-Ray) player via HDMI cable directly to your receiver without that problem. Connect HDMI output from receiver to a second HDMI input on the LG.

How to connect my audio system directly to sony bravia

There is usually three ways to connect a TV to a Surround Sound system:

1. Optical Audio Cable (Fiber Optic)
2. Coaxial Audio Cable (Orange)
3. Composite Audio Cables (Left - White, Right - Red)

Once you select a cable to use that is compatible with both devices, you must then connect it to the output on the TV set, and one of the inputs on the Surround Sound Receiver (preferably the Video Input or whatever type you selected to use). Then you must change the input on the Receiver to the proper input that you connected the cable to (most Receivers will have a Source Button if not individual source buttons i.e. Tuner, Tape, CD, Video, Aux, etc.).
Note: Some Receivers if using a certain type of input will not have sound out of all 5 speakers unless the input is 5.1 compatible.

I just purchased a denon avr-1610 receiver and I cannot get picture back to my tv through the hdmi. I have a starchoice dvr which is dvi to hdmi, I come out of my satelite into sat/cab then out of my denon...

One possible reason is the HDCP (copy-prevention)-encoded signal from the DVR, which will transmits through to one device (the receiver) but not to a second (the TV). As an experiment and a possible solution, try reconnecting the HDMI cable from the DVR directly to the TV (provided you have an extra HDMI input on it), and using the component-video or S-video plus either digital or analog audio outputs to connect your DVR to the receiver. If this works, I think that the HDCP is the problem and this is the only solution.
It may be a little inconvenient to remember to switch inputs on the TV as well as the receiver, but you could probably program your remote with a macro to do both. The component video (or, more likely, the S-video) is also the best possible video signal you can use for dubbing to any DVD recorders, if you have one connected to the same receiver. You can still keep the HDMI connected from your PS3 (or other BD/DVD) player to the receiver, and from there to the TV, since that does seem to work -- if you don't mind turning on the receiver every time you want to watch a BD or DVD. My recommendation, however, is to connect all your video signals directly to the TV via HDMI or component, and use the receiver only for audio, or for switching of lower-level video signals like S-video that you can use for dubbing. That way you can always check the DVR or BD or DVD quickly without powering up your receiver, which takes a few seconds and much more power.

Setting up DVR, Receiver & VCR w/out cable box

For TV audio thru the receiver, you will need to run an optical cable or RCA analog audio cable from the "Audio Output" or "Monitor Output" on the back of the TV to the CBL/Sat input on the Yamaha. The VCR goes to Video 1 on the receiver and the DVDR will go to DVR/VCR2 on the receiver. If you want to pass Video thru the Yamaha to the TV, use the "Monitor Output" on the Yamaha if it's at least "Component Video" if not, connect your video sources directly to the TV and audio to the Yamaha. Hope this helps. If you need further assistance with this, post a comment and I will help you further.

Yamaha RX-V661 - no audio since I hooked up digital converter box

Immediately you have the problem of TV audio out to DVR audio out. Inputs go to outputs and outputs go to inputs - always.
I think what you may want to do is daisy chain all your audio (e.g. audio output of Tivax to audio input of VCR. Audio output of VCR to audio input of DVR. Audio output of DVR to an audio input of the Yamaha) In order to get the audio from any given device to the reciever, you may have to power up all of components.) Of course in order to record on the VCR and DVR you would attach the antenna to the RF input on the Tivax , RF output to the RF input of the VCR, RF output of the VCR to the RF input of the DVR and finally the RF output of the DVR to the antenna input of the TV. I don't know whether there would be any losses in such an elaborate hookup such that the RF signal would not be strong enough to get stations but you can experiment by just taking links out of this daisy chain. Hope this helps.

Connection/configuration issue: I have a Denon

Just confirming my understanding of your connections :

1). The DVD1800BD output HDMI is connected to AVR3808's DVD-in HDMI.
2). The DVD/VHS recorder output HDMI is connected to AVR3808's DVR-in HDMI.
3). The DVD/VHS recorder input (S-video and L/R Audio) is connected to AVR3808's DVR-out(SVideo and L/R Audio).
Right?

What other inputs have been connect to your AVR3808?
Does the recorder have Component Video inputs?

Please also connect DVD1800BD's output(Component video, S-Video and L/R Audio) to AVR3808s' DVD-in similar inputs and try recording onto your recorder.

Actually, its possible that you may be having a HDMI HDCP communication issue(High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) with the source product (DVD1800BD). First check with the source equipment manufacturer for any updates to their products.

If HDMI video is not passing through your AVR3808, you can connect it thru the alternate connection method I have mentioned above.

If the connections/recording still does not happen with the added anolog cables, then let me know , we can trouble shoot it further.
I hope the above helps.

Please do rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa!

Motorola DCT 6200/1000 seems to only have one audio output?

There are three options:

1) Connect the Tivo using the coax output of the cable box into the cable input of the Tivo

2) Exchange cable boxes with your cable provider for one with composite output jacks. It may require you to use a Motorola box that isn't High def depending on what your provider has. I know Comcast has a Motorola HD tuner that has composite outputs as well as component.

3) Upgrade to a Series 3 Tivo. Those units are designed for High Def. Use HDMI cable hookup.

Having problems with HDMI connection from COMCAST Motarola HD Dual TUNER DVR HDMI DCH6416 to Panosonic Home Theater system SA-PT660 to AKAI LCD HDTV. There is only one HDMI Output on the COMCAST box; one...

Connect the HDMI outputs on your various components to the HDMI inputs on your receiver. Connect the HDMI output on the receiver to the input on your TV. HDMI incorporates digital audio, so no need to buy optical audio cables. If your receiver does not have HDMI inputs for all your components, you will need to make a choice. HDMI = Best, component video + optical audio = second best, S-video+ optical audio = third best

Need diagram to connect Motorola DVR, Panasonic DMR-E recorder, A/V Receiver, and HDTV

Your not going to be able to connect in series (not sure if thats your goal) since your limited by the type of connections you can use. Your receiver is going to have to be switched depeneding on what source you want to listen too. DVR, DVD, etc. HDMI is going to important for your TV connection. Radio Shack has cheap HDMI cables.
So... connect HDMI from DVR to HDTV this will give you sound and picture to TV. Connect DVR optical or coaxial ( RCA if you dont care about surround) to Receiver to give you DVR sound thru Receiver input.
Connect DVD to receiver via optical/coaxial/rca for DVD sound thru receiver (again RCA is not recommended for surround).
Connect Component video to HDTV(or HDMI if TV has second HDMI input) to give you video from DVD.
Connect Yellow video or S-video from DVR to DVD recorder input to allow recording from DVR. Also connect red/white audio to (same) DVD input.
That should cover it.
