Amana LG8409W2 Gas Dryer

Dryer heats up for a few minutes then the flame goes out.
We cleaned underneath and got the built up lint out of the way. At first it wouldn't heat at all, then after cleaning the flame ignited , stays lit for a few minutes then goes out.
This dryer is 11 yeas old and has had no problems. repairs, or maintenance.
Any ideas?

SOURCE: igniter keeps going out on LP dryer

Look at the gas control box. Inside this box has a valve to open the gas so it can sustain the burner. This valve is control by the voltage of dryer sensor. This thermocouple is near the ignitor.. If this fails, there would be no voltage to open the valve. Here is how it looks like: 7f43321.jpg

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

Remove the entire venting system and thoroughly clean the lint out. This does cause this problem you have for no heat after running for a few minutes

Hi, i have an amana dryer, model LG8409w2. it is running but has no heat. is this a gas dryer? and how do i get into it to see what's wrong. thanks

Hi, to tell if it is gas or elect, just pull it out some and look behind it. A gas dryer will have a galvanized pipe with a gas flex line and shut off valve going to it. If electrical, it will have a large diameter cord plugged into a large round plug much different then a regular receptacle. It sounds as though it is a electric dryer as it is running. A gas dryer will have a regular plug on it to. If no heat, it could be a number of things that are wrong. The heat strips are located at the rear of the dryer behind the panel. You will need to unplug it and pull it out to do this. Give yourself lots of room with a strong light to work with. The heating element has several coils of wire lined up in a vertical position. Look them over very good for a break in any part of these coils, look very carefully to find one. If you do, you will need a new one. Take the model, serial, and name to a appliance parts house to get one. If by chance it is gas, make sure there is gas to the unit and the valve is open. Shut off the valve and take loose the line. Crack open the vale a little to hear and smell the gas. There is not much you can check on a gas dryer but this, that's about it. It may be the ignitior, a thermostat ect. I am sure you have a electric dryer, so check the element and clean all of the lint from the unit. Get back to me on this, so we can go further if needed.
Sincerely,

My amana gas dryer is not heating

Hi there,

Well if your dryer tumbles, but there is no heat then you may please check out the following -
1. First of all you can check out for proper air flow - Check the vent for proper air flow by placing your hand over the exterior vent while the dryer is running. You should feel a strong flow of air. If not then check the lint trap. It is located either on top of the dryer or possibly just inside the door. Remove any lint that has built up in the lint trap. Cleaning the lint trap should be done regularly, even as often as after every load. Do not operate the dryer without a lint trap in place.
2. Secondly you can check out the Ignitor - gas dryer blows air through a burner assembly to heat the air. The burner assembly consists essentially of a gas valve, ignitor and a flame sensor. If any part of the burner assembly malfunctions, the result will be low or no heat and slow drying of the clothes.

Good Luck!!

Amana Dryer LG8409W2 - The dryer heats for a few seconds then runs cold. The dryer has been cleaned as well as the vent and still no heat.

karenl46 -- Flame sensor has to "see" proper flame in order for gas burner to stay on. Safety solenoid engages (shuts off gas) when flame light not detected. Check window on sensor (1:30 CW position) on burner tube. If you still have problem after cleaning it, then refer to URL below. -- SWT

Check the lint tubing and also for lint underneath the dryer. There is a blockage somewhere for this to happen. This is a built in safety feature for gas dryers that others don't have.
