The red question mark indicates a failure to communicate with a locating satellite. If you are transiting or in an area where you know you have adequate coverage the likely problem is in the wiring and connections between your GPS antenna and the 310c head unit itself. A common problem is the connector bus itself on the back of your screen. Often it is exposed to salt water and humid conditions and the terminals corrode. I use a dielectric grease and fill the female connector pin holes to aviod this and ensure good connectivity. Another quick test is to reboot your head unit by powering off and back on. Its possible you are merely dropping signal and the unit needs to reaquire the broadcast. If you still have no joy its time to take it to the marine electronics tech and get it looked at. Garmin is making some great new products and it might just be time to upgrade anyways! Best of luck.

Hi, 673king, My Garmin is c330, but I think that all GPS's of this nature are programmed only for roads -- not bodies of water. I haven't updated my 2-yr.-old-Garmin yet for new maps, but what you describe concerning the red question mark is exactly what I get when I am on a road that was constructed after my Garmin was programmed. Since the GPS can't find the road in its memory, it merely has a red question mark until I get onto a road that the software recognizes. It then operates as usual.

Hi my name tony i need to update my maps on my garmin 310

Garmin offers two kinds of updates on its website: software updates are free. Map updates are not. You'll need a USB cable to connect the Garmin to your computer. Then go to
On the web site, first register your product. Then look for "Support" and follow their instructions for updating your software. After you've done that, look for "Maps" on the menu at the top of the screen. You can either purchase updates one at a time, or buy a lifetime (of your device) subscription. By the way, maps are huge files, so plan on it taking several hours to update your maps even with a fast internet connection.

Garmin nuvi 1100 gps. Screen says no map data. Is there a default setting?

The map may have become unselected.
Press TOOLS, the spanner symbol on the page that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
Press SETTINGS or LOCALE on some models
Press MAPS and then at the bottom of the screen press MAP INFO
Your map name should be displayed. THere should be a tick beside it. If there's no tick press the map name and it will tick. The map is now selected and should work ok.

I've updated my map for garmin nuvi 310 through malfreemaps but it did not work well. The map did not display as detail as they preview. I also lost the guidance voice. And my car picture keep off the most...

It sounds like you may have wiped out the Garmin internal maps with the malfreemaps and they aren't compatible with your unit. You'll have to send it in to Garmin to have them reload the units software and maps.

Garmin 600/650

Most likely you had the 2007 or 2008 maps. Click on the wrench icon, then the maps symbol and then the word "info" or "about" and you should see the current map revision. If you updated it recently, it should now show 2009.

Garmin GPS map 182: seems to work fine, but does not show navigational aids. Boat is tracked, and route is marked, plus previous routes shown. However, channel markers are not showing up. Any ideas?

Which channel markers? There is a settings menu for map detail, put that on highest (press menu once or twice to get to the setup menu)
