If I try and format my LaCie drive through my computer its capacity shows as 9.99 MB why is that if I do format it (NTFS) will it have the correct capacity of 250G

You may have two or more partitions on this hard drive. If you delete all the partitions and then format the hard drive then you will have the full unformatted 250 Gb capacity.

Lacie HArd drive not accessible

Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management

Find the drive on the bottom section, right-click it and assign an unused drive letter of your choice. It should then appear in windows explorer.

I have a LaCie 500 GB Exernal Hard Drive, everytime I plug it into my laptop it works fine for a few minutes (various lengths from 2 minutes to 20 minutes) then it causes my laptop to freeze. I no longer...

Are you sure it is not a power problem? If the drive has an external power supply then then will not be the case, but if not, the USB port might not provide enough power.

Hard drive thinks it is full

well..those ext drives can get confused..only way to assess this is to open the drive in the finder, and see how large the folders are..

Lacie external HD problems

I would suspect your USB drivers. Go into device manager and remove (uninstall) any device under the USB heading. Reboot and see if it works better. Also I would try the drive on another computer to make sure it is working find and try a different USB cable just in case.

Can't access my lacie external hard drive

I would first plug it in to a different PC, this will tell you if the problem is the Lacie or Windows Vista.
if it works on a different PC then remove it from Device manager or go to the Lacie website for Vista updates.

If it does not work on a different PC then there are 3 possibilities
1. the drive got cleared data lost
2. the enclosure is bad (I would bet on this)
3. the drive is bad

purchase a USB enclosure, remove the drive and install it in the new enclosure plug in and test.

Hope this helps
