Needs a new scr or diode. the diode is the fat black cylinder about the size of a pencil eraser - use any 6A, 1000V diode. Ther scr is a 40TPS12 1200V 40A unit. u can purchase both on ebay for less than $6.

That sounds like the circuit board has failed in the unit. you can call Parmak and see about either purchasing a replacement circuit board , or getting the unit serviced by them or an authorized service center.

My parmak 6 fence charger quit charging. I replaced the battery; still no charge. It is only 3 years old. Is there any other things I should check before replacing the whole unit?

If there is high voltage (same as when purchased), the problem is with the fence. In this case, it could be a broken wire, a bad splice joint, or anything that is not allowing voltage through. If the charger is clicking and there is low voltage, or if it turns on and won't click, there is a problem with the charger.

Does the Wizard 4 Energizer for an electric fence make a continous ticking sound under normal condtions?

electric fencers work on a pulse system so that what ever touches the fence gets a series of electric jolts
normally it will tick or click at a 2 second interval

Charger was working fine but now no longer turns on

If under warranty have it repaired/replaced. If not under warranty then some basic troubleshooting. Most likely a battery issue howerver;

To test the fencer output you can power the fencer from either a standard 6V lantern battery (6V fencer) or a standard 12V automobile battery (12V fencer). You need to rig wiring observing polarity.

To test battery, remove and check voltage with digital volt meter.
A fully charged 6V SLA battery should read 6.2V minimum and a 12V should read 12.4V minimum. If a 6V battery measures 4 volts or less then battery has likely failed. Likewise if a 12V battery measures 10 volts or less it has likely failed. Before replacing a suspect failed battery, connect the battery to any standard 6V/12V automobile charger and see if it will take a charge. After the charging period;

  • If battery takes a charge, reinstall back in fencer and see if fencer output is hot. If fencer fails output, repair/replace fencer. Else verify the fencer is charging the battery. While battery is installed in fencer measure battery voltage with a digital volt meter. Typical minimum voltage is 13.5V for 12V and 6.7V for 6V. If fencer fails to meet minimum battery charging voltage, likely the fencer solar charging system has failed, repair/replace.

  • If battery fails to charge, likely battery is end of life. However fencer could still not work. Test fencer with alternate power source (see previous tests). If fencer ok, replace battery.

I have a Parmak Model DF-SP-LI. With a volt meter it reads 2.3 on the fence, but the performance meter is always reading beyond the green.

It depends on the type of fence tester. the common light-o-meters are a resistor ladder, calculated not only for voltage but current. the DF-SP-LI uses half the lowest current most are designed for. no if that is a digital or analog meter, then it would be time to check the out put from the charger with out the fencer connected. if you get the same reading it maybe defective unit. if you get a better reading then you will probable need to upgrade your ground system. insuffencient ground will show its self as a low out put on the fence but not on the charger.

12v solar charger is not clicking when turned on.

disconnect the unit from the fence and turn it on. if the fencer work(ticks, meter moves) then it is a fence issue(short, broken wire). if it doesn't then it is an issue with the unit its self and it will probley need a PCB or service.
