We have a Cusinart COD 4000 that is only about 7 months old. It just doesn't come on when you turn the switch to brew. This happened about 3 weeks ago and I payed with the top - sitting something on top and it worked. It has been fine and then this morning, the same thing happened. It just wouldn't start brewing. Any suggestions?

Re: Coffee pot not brewing
Open and close Brew Drawer. Green light will flash. Push the Brew Button. The Brew Button is disabled if the user does not brew within 60 seconds of closing the Brew Drawer. This prevents accidental activation.orThe thermal breaker has died in it. This is usually mounted on, or near the heating elementm and usually turns off when excessive temperatures are present (such as when a pot boils dry, or the unit is left on for days) It can be checked with a ohm meter on its contacts. If it shows as good, it should show up as normally closed. Some overtemp breakers have a small button for resetting, but most are simply supposed to reset themselves once the heat is sufficiently reduced. There are also heat fuses that blow...for good when excessive heat is detected, mounted in the same place, they are often a metal bullet shaped tube. OR.....your power cord...or main power switch could also be faulty.

Try completely unplugging your pot and then plugging it back in. It is possible that this will reset the programming in your coffee pot. If this doesn’t work, I recommend calling Brevell customer service and they will either help you or probably send you another pot.
Just a comment; most of the coffee maker failures are caused by the premature failure of a thermal fuse that is intended to prevent fire in case the main heater doesn't turn off as it should.
Unfortunately, most of these parts come from China and are very poorly made so the point at which they 'protect' is pretty unpredictable, many of them failing at a much lower temperature than necessary.
The second most common failure is the thermal switch that cycles the main heater element; these are bimetallic switches that grow 'tired' and the point at which they open and close again gets wider apart until it can take an hour for a 12-cup pot to finish brewing.
Cuisinart Coffeemaker Decalcification Process Run 2 cups distilled white vinegar and 2 cups water through the system - brew it like it was regular coffee. Then run plain water through the coffemaker to rinse the vinegar out and make sure the decalcification was successful. Repeat as needed. Don't forget to remove the charcoal water filters first. -Tha Mp3 Doctor
I'lm not sure of the model, but it is a Cusinart Coffee Maker with a Glass Pot. It gets power on all lights except the ON/OFF switch, and it willl not brew. Any suggestions, or should I trash it and get a new Coffee Maker. This one is approx. 1 year old. Thanks for your advise.
Yup thats the Ticket - EASY FIX -
you have to clean the insides too people... lol.. The best way to do it is to buy citric acid crystals available from your local pharmacy. who knew huh? a couple of tablespoons in distilled water. Brew half the pot and let it sit for 30 min the brew the rest of the pot. Notice the color of your water after your done brewing. probably green from copper.. I could go into much more detail but thats the short answer... brew another pot or two of just plane ole water and bang your good go.. You should do this every month with any coffee pot for better tasting coffee..
