My Sony e-reader PRS 350 froze while i was making some notes and now its starting to heat up a little. it wont turn off and the reset button doesn't work. So i tried charging it, then the little circle near the power lights up (which i know its normal) but the screen is still frozen. this e-reader is about a week old. PS usually when I'm done reading i won't completely turn it off and let it sleep instead. (as in sleep for hours...) does this affect anything?

Try reseting the reader through poking the hole in the back.

If this works let me know ... Also remember to EJECT the device before unplugging.

Authorizing the Reader to the Sony software...

How to authorize a Reader to an eBook Store account.
Solution:
To transfer books from a computer to the Reader, you must authorize the Reader to your account. Authorization links your Reader to your eBook Store account, allowing books purchased from the eBook Store to be transferred to the authorized Reader. You can authorize up to six devices to a single account:
1. Launch the Reader (eBook) Library software.
2. Log in to your eBook Store account.
3. Turn on the Reader.

NOTE: For best results, we recommend that the Reader be fully charged before starting the authorization process.

4. Connect the Reader to the computer.
5. In the eBook Store pane, click My account.
6. On the Account Management page, under My Authorized Devices , click Manage Devices.
7. On the Manage Device page, under We have detected the following attached Devices: , click the Authorize this device button.

Resetting the device:
* Soft Reset
On the back or bottom of the reader (depending on your model), using the tip of the stylus or similar object, press the RESET button. The screen does not change, unless you slide the Power Switch to turn the reader on.

* Hard Reset (PRS-300 Series)
WARNING: A HARD RESET WILL ERASE ALL CONTENT ON THE READER.
1. Power off the Reader.
2. On the bottom edge of the Reader, using a pin or paper clip, press the RESET button.
3. Turn on the Reader.
4. While the screen displays Opening book... , simultaneously press and hold down the down arrow of the directional button and the 0 button until the Reset All screen is displayed.

NOTE: If Opening book... does not display on the screen, charge the Reader's battery for several hours before attempting the reset process again.

5. Press the 5 button to reset the Reader.

Where are my ebook files located?
Windows:
- If you downloaded them using ADE, the folder is /documents/My Digital Editions
- If you downloaded them using the sony software, the folder is /documents/My Books/Reader Library

Hope helps.

When I turn my sony reader on the touch screen will not work, i can not get my book to reload. i was in the middle of reading and jsut froze. i tried recharging and still nothing.

Have you tried resetting your device (reset button is very small on the bottom - use a paperclip end or pen tip to reset it)? I had to do that, and it took a bit to reload, but was up and working fine after that. Be sure that your device is charged prior to resetting and disconnected from your computer.

Sony ebook Reader is Frozen, Not charging

The Sony Reader used a special type of display; the LCD can retain an image without having power. It takes power while changing the pages. In most of the cases, if the power is fully discharged, the LCD will keep the last image that was displayed it makes an impression that the Reader is frozen. However, the Actual thing is, the screen retains the last image on the screen and there is no power to change the pages. These type of situations can be resolved by charging the Reader sufficiently.
Each step in my solution is a possible resolution. Hence I suggest thatyou perform each step and check the operation.
  1. Charge the battery fully by connecting to a computer or by using a compatible AC Adaptor. It may take a few minutes (up to 15 minutes) to displaythe charging symbol if the Reader is fully drained in its last use.
  2. Once the reader is charged fully (at least 45 minutes), slide the power button to turn ON.
  3. Perform a softreset. We can perform a soft reset by pressing the reset button on the Reader.
  4. After the RESET button has been pressed, slide the POWER switch to activate the Reader device again. If the Indicator light nextto the power button on the Reader device is yellow, the unit is attempting to start up. If this is the case, allow it a few moments to complete startup.
  5. If the Reader is still not charging up properly, connect the Reader to computer or AC Adaptorand then press the reset button.
  6. Disconnect the Reader device from the computer (if applicable) and then slide the POWER switch to activate the Readerdevice. Check if the Indicator light next to the powerswitch on the Reader device is yellow (indicating it is turning on) and if the unit is responding.
If the unit isstill frozen, connect it again to the computer or AC adapter and while connected, check if the Indicator light next to the power switch on the Reader device is red. If this light is red , allow the Reader device tocharge for one hour sothere is sufficient charge for troubleshooting.

If the issue persists, perform a hard reset to resolve the issue. Please follow the steps to perform a hard reset:

Prs 350 not responding to anything. tried power switch, soft reset button, and connecting usb cable. stuck on page of book i was reading.

Welcome to Fixya

Try to reset the device. Reset the Reader by pressing the RESET hole with a small pin or clip. After 5 seconds, slide the POWER switch to restart the Reader. The content and settings stored on the Reader are not affected by resetting.

Hi vailzamorta!

You can try to do a "Soft Reset" on the Reader. Do not worry, this will not affect your ebooks =)

1. Disconnect the reader from the computer
2. Hit the Reset button at the bottom of the unit for 3 seconds with a paper clip
3. Slide the power switch at the top of the eReader
4. The screen will blink and show opening book.... allow the reader to load

Just in case here are some other steps to try in case this does not make any difference

It freezes and doesn't charge well.

Hi!

You can try a hard reset to start all over, or probably a book inside your reader may be corrupted. You can try a hard reset:

Note: All data will be deleted and you will need to transfer all your content, if from Sony, do not worry you can redownload the books at no cost again.

1. Make sure the reader is at least half charge (If you are not sure, connect it to the computer for 15 minutes and make sure there is a redlight at the top)
2. With the reader disconnected from the PC, hit the reset button at the bottom of the reader for 5 seconds
3. Release the reset, and slide the power swith, the scree will blink and will shot "Opening Book..."
4. While the reader shows "Opening Book" press and hold the zero "0" and the down arrow until "RESET ALL" appears on the screen
5. You will be prompted to press the number five "5" to agree
6. Press the number 5 and the reader will go blank, turn the reader on again and this time allow it to load
7. Transfer you books again

Hope this helps, Good Luck! =)

Touch screen for definition only works when I turn on the ereader and after that when I touch the screen for definition it doesn't work. It turns the page instead.

Hi Darnellakell!

I´m not sure if you already tried to reset the reader, turn it off, and hit the reset button at the bottom of the reader then turn it on. Just make sure the reader is fully charge, your books will not be affected =)

You can check this forum and ask your questions too =)

My Sony ereader touch isn't charging. Pluging it in to either the computer or the wall charger, and the light doesn't go on. The screen is frozen on the last page it turned to.

Hi suebagnall,

If the redlight does not come on, try the following:

1. Connect the reader to the wall charger (make sure you use the Sony Charger ACS5220)
2. Hit the Reset button at the bottom of the reader
3. Check if the redlight comes on
4. If so, leave the reader charging for 15 minutes to see if it takes the charge
5. If this does not resolve the problem, probably you will need to contact Sony to get it repaired
