In order to set it to slave you first needs to make sure the cable that u hoodked up to the hard drive is the slave not secondary then boot the computer to the bios and then under the ide section section you need to ensure that the hard drive is recognized as primary slave it will show the hard drive as a primary or a secondary that will let you you that u have the cable hooked up to the harddrive right if not usee the other connector on the same cabel and repeat the bios settings i know it sounds hard but it really is not good luck !!!!

Installed 2T Hitachi drive with controller as secondary drive. Devices show both working correctly. But XP doesn't recognize it. How do I get XP to recognize it?

This problem can easily be fixed. It is caused by your HDD not being formatted. Go to Start> Right click on "my computer" and select manage from the box that pops up. In the window that pops up then, click on Storage > Disk management on the left hand side. Then right click on the drive you installed, and click format. You should probably format as NTFS.

Hi, I have problem here. I just bought Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C. It works fine at first, but one day latter some clicking noise appear. It detected in BIOS, but then make my Windows take a very long time...

The short answer is the drive is having trouble calibrating itself, and should be sent back under warranty for replacement.
There are things you could try to recover the unit, but why risk voiding the warranty only to wind up with a questionable drive afterward?

Installed my hitachi deskstar 120GB hard drive into a case and hooked up to power and usb port but my computer cannot access it. It sees it as installed hardware but i can't click on it and get the data.

Hi Guest!

Assuming you are on Windows XP or Vista,

go and right click on My Computer, click Manage.

go down to the entry labelled Disk Management.

See if you can see that drive listed in this view.

if you can, it is likely that a drive letter is not associated to the drive itself!

just right click on the drive, and click on Change Drive Letter or Path.

Select a unique drive letter, and boom, it should pop up as a removable drive.

If you havent yet formatted the device, you can do that through here as well. Remember that Fat32 will not show the full drive amount, I recommend NTFS, or make several FAT32 partitions. This can all be done through this Disk Management window.

for help on Formatting , that should be a seperate question however.

My hitachi hard drive dosent show up in my computer

The reason it's not showing up in XP is because microsoft made updates to drive handling in Windows 7.

The disk is in essence too "advanced for XP"

Your best solution is to copy the data off the drive onto the windows 7 machine, then format the drive using windows XP. Once formatted, copy your files back onto the drive from the windows 7 computer and both will be able to share the drive.

Hope this helps FixYa,

1. Right click on My Computer > Manage;

2. On the new window click on Disk Management, on the right side, right click in the USB Volume and chose "Change Drive Letter and Path..."

3. In the new window click on "Add..." to assign a letter to your USb drive.

I added an SATA HD to a system whose C and D drives are a WD 400GB PATA HD. The Hitachi 750GB drive has no jumpers for master/slave. After boot-up the system sees it but assigns no E or other letter...

  • Right Click [My Computer] and click Manage
  • Click Disk Management on the left side
  • Inspect the drives listed. The new drive may need to be formatted for the operating system to recognize it and assign it a letter.
  • To format the drive, right click the drive with no letter, and click Format. Choose your format (Preferred NTFS), and quick format the drive so that windows recognizes it.
