Question about Singer 7462 Mechanical Sewing Machine

I have an old Singer Sewing Machine Model 786, there seems to be a problems with cobbling underneath, causing looping on the underside I presume its the bobbin but have been unable to fix, I do not have the booklet anymore, so cant look up.

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Sometimes it is on a metal plate or on older machines it is sometimes stamped into the metal on the underside of the machine. FWIW, older machines there is usually only one number--the serial number. That serial number is associated with a model number:

Make sure you have the correct bobbin, 66 class. Check the bobbin case. These machines use the apollo bobbin case that tend to get broken and then the thread hangs up.

Ok, if the bottom thread is looping (bottom of fabric) try adjusting your UPPER tension.

Make sure that your thread isn't catching on anything before it reaches your needle, a small snag can cause needles to break.

When making a straight stitch or Zigzag stitch, makes loops underneath the fabric This is for a Singer sewing machine model 5817c


Your top tensioner is too loose.make sure the thread runs through all the relevant eyes and then tighten the top tension little by little as you do a sample few stitches.
