It will be a Security Screw Nancy. There are a few different types, Torx is the most common, but others have a triangular slot and are popular on domestic irons. You need a set of security screwdrivers or screwdriver bits. Or you can take the iron down to Home Depot and ask someone in the tool department.

please take it back, it will only give you more problems. irons are not made as well as they use to be.

have this done by an accredited appliance service shop as it is not a job for beginners.

This problem developed with our iron within the last week. Playing around with it today, I discovered that the dial WOULD respond to "persuasion". I forced it, and it cooperated. Find somebody with a stronger grip and try it.

I found a previous answer on FixTa.com that had a link to the owners manual for my iron. The info I needed was there and my problem is resolved!

I work for Black & Decker. Any part that someone is telling you to purchase for that iron isn't from Black & Decker. Their irons are no designed to be repaired. I think I have the solution now! 
 
First of all, remove the temperature knob. Than remove the temperature indicator (it's like a little disc). Theres a hidden screw under the temperature indicator! Remove that screw and continue with your fixes.

p.s. - Sorry for my noob english...

The iron will probably have to be taken apart.
If you are handy, you can do this when unplugged.
Check for broken connections and anything that is obvious like burned smell etc.
