We just had the same problem. We took off the three screw on the back to remove the top panel on washer. From there we took the screws off the electric face plate on the front. Be careful, there is a screw located inside the door. You must open the door to get to the screw. Next we removed the bottom panel door and then the four screws to the mail metal panel on the front. Hold that panel because the rubber gasket is still connected. Then you will see a rubber hose directly under the drawer. Take the rubber hose off at the bottom nearest the drum. We found a sock that had wedged itself up and was causing a back up. After I cleared it, the washer works just fine.
Remove detergent drawer by pressing release on left rear of drawer ..clean thoroughly ..ck water inlet just inside upper left of door opening for obstruction if water cannot flow into washer there it may be backing up through drawer

a quart of water over the course of a cycle is pretty significant, other then trying to remove the fabric softener section looking for a blockage in the dispensor(which is basic and should be real evident ) theres not much more for you the consumer to look for.(or should you have to for that matter its why you bought a NEW appliance). As for the service , you've purchased a Whirlpool product, therefore you can call any whirlpool authorized Company out to service you dont need to wait for Sears!!!!!!!

You could have a clog in the housing underneath the dispenser where the water flows through a hose into the tub.
Pull the dispenser drawer completely out.
There is a tab that needs to be depressed to release the drawer and remove it.
Check the opening at the bottom of the housing just inside the dispenser housing opening to see if a small sock or garment is clogging this opening.
Reach down into this opening to see if an item is inside the hose.
This is the normal issue that will cause water to leak out of the dispenser housing.
Wash the dispenser drawer thoroughly with warm water. Make sure that you pull off the siphon covers and wash all siphon holes. This process is described in your owner's manual. Replace the dispenser drawer and try the washer again.
