Question about Swingline Portable Electric Stapler

1 Answer

We have a swingline model #690 - after loading with new staples, it does not staple. It is plugged in and makes a sound like it's stapling but does not release a staple.

I have a 48201 with a red light that stays on. Is it the battery? I know when it runs out of staples that the light comes on but I have enough staples in the machine for that NOT to be the problem unless it is a short circuit of some sort. HELP in TX.

1. Make sure you have the correct staples for the machine. The type appears to be:
Swingline 50050 Cartridge Staples, Chisel Point, 1/2"" Crown, 3/16"" Leg, 5000 Per Box High-quality Swingline cartridge

2. Check the cartridge to make sure there are no visible jams.

Kent Hartle RE: Swingline 690 Stapler. After a couple months here is why I am extremely upset with Swindline or ACCo or GBC whoever is behind the curtain. After running fine for years, I purchased a new cartridge. The 690 did not pull staples. I worked for hours following all given instructions. I finally sent the stapler off for repair. It came back. I relaoded cartridge (following all Instructions) and it still did not work. I send it in again (my cost to an independent repair facility) with response it worked fine and they provided a video with a partial cartridge. Worked file again until I put in a different new cartridge. I again called Swingline. They confirmed what the repair facilty said. Swingline changed the cartridges, did not change the part number and did admit, until this last call that the new staples are not working in the older units. They changed the feed part or the cartridge. I asked if I choudl purchase old style cartridges, Answer was not. I asked if they offered a discount on the purchase of a new stapler, they said no. Basically, the reward for being a loyal customer was DROP DEAD.

My staples are stapling backwards.

Take your staples out of your stapler and reinsert new ones.
Try that and see if it makes any difference.

Swingline optima 40 how do you open and close the stapler?

Swingline heavy duty staplers provide the power to staple up to 120 pages of 20-lb. paper easily and consistently. The all-metal construction of these staplers makes them an indispensible office tool. However, the way to load staples into a Swingline heavy duty stapler differs from the method for loading most other manual staplers and can cause a little confusion.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions

    • 1 Remove the follow block at the back of the stapler by pushing the mechanism in, lifting the block up over the holding hooks and sliding it out from the stapler. The follow block is the spring-loaded mechanism that holds the staples in place within the stapler.
    • 2 Load the heavy-duty staples into the staple tray.
    • 3 Replace the follow block by inserting it back into the stapler and locking it into place over the holding hooks.

Trying to load the staples into a model #90010. They're fine except at the very front of the stapler, they wont go all the way down flush with the others and the chamber won't even close.

1. Make sure you have the correct staples for the machine, Swingline Hvy-Duty Staples for 90010 Stapler, 0.625-Inch Leg Length, 2500 per Box (90009)

2. Check the staples to make sure there are no visible jams. Remove some staples from the row if this helps them fit.

3. If you continue to have problems, contact the manufacturer at http://www.acco.com/swingline/, or
Repair Service/Technical Support:
Phone: 800.790.7787

They will replace the stapler if needed.

I had the same problem with my 690. This is what worked for me.. I simply pulled out the staples from the cartridge a little further than the suggested tear-off point, and the machine was able to start working. Hope this helps!

Went to the local hardware and read the labels. The store brand fit and works as good as the original staples. The 1000 has outlasted several of the new fashion staplers. And the local hardware store is an Ace Hardware.
