I have an amana abb1924des. A few days ago it stopped cooling. It was making click and buzzing sound. I changed the overload relay and capacitor. The refrigerator started working again for a few hours. The click and the buzzing is back and it's no longer cooling. Is this a case of a defective part? Is it worth trying to fix this fridge?

Hi there

Only bad news I'm afraid, the click and buzzing sound is a seized compressor, you said changed the relay and capacitor, good idea but often a seized compressor will come free if it cools for a while, unfortunately it will normally seize again fairly quickly. A job for the tech guy.

Best wishes

Gordon

Refrigerator makes a buzzing sound for 10 seconds clicks and stops making the sound. This happens every minute or so

I believe that buzzing sound is coming from the start relay and the click is the overload clicking because the compressor is trying to start but cannot because the start relay is defective, You may have a run or start capacitor bad also, Thanks Sea Breeze

Amana AFD2535FES makes loud buzzing noise

When a start relay and the coil that opens the water for the ice maker or the water dispenser begin to weaken they some times buzz. Its possible you will need to either replace the=> 67003753 Water Inlet Valve

I have been doing refrigeration for over 30 years and I have never seen a compressor with a chip inside of it. Have you tried cleaning the condensor coils? I almost sounds like you have a weak start capacitor. Let me know if i can help you any futher.

Amana side by side, buzzing, no fan in fridge.

that sound is the relay/overload. it is trying to start the compressor. the problem is either that relay or the compressor itself

The Amana refigerator I have stopped cooling. There is power to the unit, the lights work but the unit is not cooling. The unit clicks every few minutes.

Start capacitor, start relay, overload and windings in compressor need checked. When clicking like that the compressor is overheating and could damage the internal overload. Send model number so I may tell you the correct parts. I will be here if you need, Sea Breeze

You may have a bad relay/overload part number 12555902 runs about $15 but if the compressor is going bad it may not work.If you take the relay/overload off  turn it into your hand and shake it if you it sprinkles out like a pepper shaker go with the OEM part afore mentioned, but if it sounds solid and nothing comes out go with a hard start(SUPCO RC0410 also about $15) it will buy you at least another couple years in which to shop around for a replacement or save the money for a new compressor. You can call Amana to check on the warranty but most only had five years on sealed system.

Clicking, buzzing, compressor too hot, thawed out

Sounds like the compressor is in thermal overload. Let it cool down completely and meter the starting amperage on start to run. The compressor could be seized or it's windings could be shorted to ground (checking the resistance between the windings terminals on the compressor while unplugged will determine this.).
