The VTech CS6124 does not have a DND feature. The ringer volume could be set to Off. For the handset(s), press Menu (the big round button below the LCD screen) on a handset when the phone system is idle (no handsets in use). Use the arrow keys (CID/Vol- and Phone Book/Vol+) to navigate to Ringers and press Select (same as the Menu button) twice. Press the Vol+ to increase the volume. You will hear the current ringer volume. Repeat pressing Vol+ until you reach a volume that you prefer. Press Select to save the setting and then press Off to exit the menu system. To adjust the ringer volume at the base, press the Up/Down buttons when the phone system is idle.
The manuals are available from VTech's product support page: https://www.vtechphones.com/support/technical-support/product/1516 . The full manual is currently available here: https://cdn-web.vtp-media.com/products/CS/CS6124/CS6124-X_WEBCIB_V7_20190916.pdf . See pages 16-17 (page 23-24 of the PDF).
There is a volume button on the phone to increase(up arrow) and to decrease(down arrow). Keep pressing the up arrow to increase the volume till you can hear clearly either with speaker or without speaker.
You didn't specify the model of your phone, but on many VTech phones you press an up-arrow button on the handset while on the call to increase the volume.
If you need a manual, you can enter the model number into the search box at http://www.vtechphones.com/vtechphones/index.cfm/support/general/manuals/
When you are talking on the phone (or listening to a dial tone), the volume control works to control the volume of the receiver. When the phone is not being used, the volume control is used to control the volume of the ringer.
You didn't indicate exact model of your phone. However I have indicated the procedure used for common Vtech's 5.8Ghz phones
Ringer volume • With the handset or base in idle (off) mode, press MENU then press ▲ or ▼ until RINGER VOLUME is shown • Press SEL. You will hear a sample of the ringer • Press ▲,▼ or a digit (0 through 6) You will hear a sample of the new ringer volume and the volume bar will be increased or decreased each time the setting is adjusted At the lowest setting the ringer will be turned off and the display will show: - OR - • With the handset or base in idle (off) mode, press or of the volume control will directly go to ringer volume menu • Press ▲ or ▼ to adjust the ringer volume
To turn off the ringer on my Vtech cordless phones, I have had to turn off the base ringer & all handsets.
Base Ringer:
Press Menu and listen carefully, continue to press menu until you hear "Base Ringer, to change base ringer press change", hit change and it will say "Off", then you must hit the PLAY/STOP button to save your change.
