This is a 2 ton A/C I got that from the 24 in model number it means 24,000 btu which equals 2 tons cooling. If this helps please rate me and do a testimonial.
This is a 3 ton unit. I go tthat from the 36 in your serial number. 36 means 36,000 btu's which equals 3 tons which cools a home 1,500 square feet to 1,700. If this help please rate me and do a testimonial.
Look for your model number on your condensor, outdoor unit. Your tonnage will be towards the end of it and divisable by 6. I.E. 36=3tons or 42=3.5tons. Ac units are messured by the half ton. If you have a split system I.E. heater inside and ac outside your system will be 1 - 5 tons. If this doesn't help post your model and serial number. I can then give you tonnage, age, so forth.
To find out the tonnage, I would need to see the model number. If you can go to the out door unit and write down the number or look for this in the numbers and letters. There are 12,000 btu's per ton of cooling. I don't know if you have a central unit or a window unit, but look for numbers like this. 018, is a 11/2 ton, 024 a 2 ton, 030 a 21/2 ton, 036 a 3 ton, 042 a 31/2 ton, 048, a 4 ton, they don't make a 41/2 ton, and it go's to 060 a 5 ton. This is the largest for a residential that is made. From there they make units for commercial buildings that start at 71/2 tons up to 350 ton's on 10,000' warehouses for wine storage and so on. This is larger then a train box car. You may want to write this down and keep it as most people have no idea how to tell, and now you do. Please don't forget to rate me as I know you will be kind. Let me know if you need my help for any thing. Sincerely, Shastalaker7 A/C, Heating Contractor ,
GE stopped making AC units probably 20 years ago. The same unit will not handle an additional 1000 sq. ft. I believe it is a four ton unit and about a 6 SEER rating which is way down on the efficency scale. You will need a 5 ton system to handle 2950 sq. ft. The average SEER rating now is 13.5.
The mfg. date is sometimes (depends of the brand and the size of the unit) on the serial number. And the 36 in the model number means exactly what you think 36000 BTU or 3 ton.
ckl60 5 ton about a 2003 model on most ac heat pumps the model number reflects the ton sized by 12000 btus per ton also as for the indoor unit cfm rating 400 cfm per ton
