The sceen has deterirated in storage and has verticle blank lines running down the screen. What would be your estimate? Can you do it by overnight receiving, repair, and return?

Just get a USB-to-Serial adapter and use the same method you used to use. Here's the one I ordered and it works fine. It includes a CD for loading a driver which I loaded before plugging anything in.

Are you able to boot from CD?

When booting PC, press the Function key that lists the 'boot from' options.

Sometimes this is activated by the DEL key.

Have you tried transferring with the original software for the device? Here is a page with download links for the original software, also here is a free trial software that claims it can transfer this data.

Sharp OZ-730 sticky keys

I have a a Sharp yo-480. I've fixed sticky keys many times. I back-up data in the organizer first. (yo-480 doesn't have a flash memory) then carefully dissasemble unit. Lift out rubber keypad and use WD-40 to wipe circut board and keypad. It's the sticky residue that makes the keys stick

Forgoten password

If you forget your password, there is no way to bypass the Secret function or enter a new password without losing all data marked as Secret.

If you forget your password, you will not be able to
unlock the Organizer and access your secret information. If this happens, you will have to delete the old password to be able to continue to use the Secret function. This will also delete all entries marked as secret.

The instructions on how to do this are here Page 56:

Retrieve Password without losing data with Sharp Organizer

According to the YO-370 Operation Manual:

What To Do If You Forgot The Password -
When you have forgotten the passord for the SECRET function, you have to delete the password along with all secret data by selecting "DATA DELETION" from the Function menu. Once the password is deleted, a new password can be entered. Follow the procedure below to delete the password (and the secret data along with it).

1. Recall the Function menu (2nd, FUNCTION)
2. Select "3 DATA DELETION", and press v (3, v)
3. Select "3 SECRET DATA". (3)
The delete prompt "DELETE ? Y/N" appears
4. Press Y (To retain the data, press N)
When Y is pressed, both the password and the secret data are deleted, and the initial display for the previous mode in use will reappear on the display.

Syncronizing the data from a Sharp OZ-650 to a new computer

A quick and dirty method of getting your data to near flat file format is to find a computer with the old RS-232 serial port and use a third party software called "Rupplynx" v 6.0 or 6.1 to download the data from the Wizard to the Rupplynx software on the PC. The backup/extracted files that you create with this software will be binary but the address book, memo etc data portion of the file will be ASCII text that is readable (beware, even the secret entries are readable so you will have to guard the computer that the files are on). A better but slower way is to copy and paste the uploaded and displayed data text in the Rupplynx 3rd party software to a Word document or plain *.txt file. I did this for the most important data since I also had about 10 years worth of memos and contacts.

I copied the whole subdirectory with the binary files from a windows XP computer that had an RS-232 port to a Windows vista computer and the program ran fine so that I could get the data into a compatible format such as Word or plain text file format. (via copy and paste) Rupplynx also has an export option to export to different file formats...

Do an ALL RESET. The only way i know of to do it is to hold the ON and Reset at the same time. Then select yes at the promt. Then wait 2 mins and take out batteries. Reinsert and turn on. it will re-format. This is the only way i know of how to ressurect it, but it deletes ALL you data.
Thanks
