Question about Foxconn 761GXK8MBRS AMD Athlon 64/Athlon 64 FX, Socket 939 (939-pin), 1600/2000MT/s SiS761GX + 965L... Motherboard

No External Speaker Sound

I just had a 761GXK8MB (with Athlon 64-bit CPU and new power supply) installed into a Dell Dimension chassis. There is no sound coming from my external speakers when plugged into the green jack on the rear panel. Inside Windows XP Home all the sound drivers are enabled and working properly. What could cause this problem?

Mike, it is the 761GXK8MB-KRS motherboard with RealTek audio. I didn't install the motherboard and CPU myself, but I assume the dude who did it knows what he's doing (maybe not). The PC is generally working, except for the audio and PS/2 problems. I found a tip on the Foxconn web site about setting jumpers for front vs. rear speaker use, but I haven't tried the solution yet...will try it tomorrow when it's in front of me. I believe the CPU is an Athlon 64 2.0 GHz, but I can't confirm until tomorrow.

The sound is fixed by the jumpers across 5-6 and 9-10, thanks. I know I can use a PS/2 keyboard with USB adapter, but I'd like to know why the PS/2 connector doesn't biggie, I'll deal with that problem later.

Hi jdnimrod,
This is not you're first post about the Foxconn mother board.
You have an issue with the PS2 keyboard as well. This Foxconn model ( 761GXK8 you listed ), is not 100% correct.
Please check this link:
Find which is you're board.
Than post back into this answer.
It is important you run the exact CPU that is compatible with the mother board.

Foxconn's Compatibility chart for MB to CPU.

I'll help you further once I know the correct mother board.

Hi again jdnimrod, thanks for clearing up which board you have. Adding the little bit of information goes a long way. Board layout page number is 5 or page number 12 in adobe reader.

The jumper (settings) you typed about are located on page 19. (Page 26 if you're using adobe .pdf manual). There is also a small picture that shows the pin numbers to help connect.

Two - (2-pin connectors) will be needed to connect pin's 5 & 6 together & pins 9 & 10 together). Shorted as the manual says.

Please read the paragraph under; Audio Interface: F_AUDIO1

That should take care of you're audio issue. Two mother board model numbers share the same manual.

    They are: 761GXK8MB-KRS & 761GXK8MB-RS.

Foxconns main web site for you're board:

As for the PS2 keyboard try another PS2 keyboard or buy a PS2 to USB adapter. The adapter & a new keyboard cost about the same.

    Best wishes' !

What is the best upgrade cpu for a compaq presario sr5110nx 32 bit vista O.S... ATHLON 64 (single core) without having to go to 64 bit, and/or new drivers ?

The 400W PSU is going to limit your CPU selection to dual-core at best, although you might be able to get away with a higher-end dual-core CPU if your RAM is not ECC and not dual-channel, and you're not running anything serious in terms of a graphics or sound card or a SCSI array.

Given your current setup I'd really look for a 1.6Ghz dual-core Athlon which has a decent amount of KB in its Level 1 and Level 2 cache, but 3MB for its Level 3 cache.

Anything beyond that ballpark of a CPU upgrade is certainly well within the bounds of diminishing returns, and you should look at getting a new PSU, motherboard, and probably RAM (I'm guessing you're using DDR2 RAM currently).

XPS-410 needs to have MCE 2005 Rollup two SP3 replaced by Windows 7 64 bit. Too many problems to list currently but will work limited programs

Not sure what you are trying to do. If you are trying to convert 32 bit to 64 bit Apps, try going to manufacturers website to look for drivers.
Win 7 will actually find the best drivers for your devices.

Dell dimension maximum cpu upgrade

You will need to type motherboard name ID and the cpu ID

Upgrading to more modern operating systems depends on the type of processor in the computer.

One of the main differences between the two systems is that a 32-bit operation requires either a 32-bit or 64-bit processor, while a 64-bit version must have at least a 64-bit processor.

The operating system will register different on each computer that is running the platform. When a user clicks on the Start button, they can go to the Control Panel, followed by the System and Maintenance tab and click on System.

This will show whether the computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system

Hope this helps.

I have at current a AMD sempron 3400+1.80GHz processor,socket AM2(940)core VID 1.100V,core speed 1002.2 MHz,bus speed 200.4MHz,HT link 801.7 MHz,stepping 2,L1 data and inst 64 KBytes-2-way,level 2 256...

The main thing is before you go swapping cpu there are some things to consider. 1. the new processor may draw more power than your current power supply can push out. 2. it will probably generate a lot more heat...both are bad..

But if you insist you can get away with an Athlon 64 X2 5600 or 6000+ cpu be careful though because some have different voltages which may not work with your board.

hope that helps.

Your existing CPU will not work with that motherboard. The AM2+/AM2 processor slot is for AMD processors only. For this motherboard, you will need one of the following processors: Phenom FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2
