Hey there, I think I found a reason for your CoD problems. Due to the recent impact of Hurricane Sandy, some of Activision's data centers that housed the servers for online play of Call of Duty games were hit pretty hard, and there are connection issues for online play across the board with many of Activision's titles. Only solution is to wait until the fallout from the storm is all cleaned up, and Activision gets back on track. FIXE THIS PROBLEM

PS3 error 80028E02 can be caused by different source of network blockages. If you happened to be in a filtered network, that's your most probable reason why your PS3 is unable to connect online. For example, if you're in a school campus, there's a high chance that the IT network administrator has placed some restrictions to prevent hackers and other malicious online activities. You can refer to the campus IT department to find out if you need to access their local page for some clearance in order for your PS3 to connect online.


If the modem or router is blocking your connection then it can be fixed by opening some ports

you will have to call your computer vendor to open the ports

You will have to open the following ports in your modem /router
Make sure the firewall is disabled in the Modem /Router
Make sure that UPnP is Enabled

can you go to network settings in your ps3 then test internet connection. If it says UPNP unavailable then you need to enable it in your router or upgrade router firmware if router shows UPNP as enabled.

Most likely you are behind a Firewall / or preset Router Settings. If this is the PS3 version of the game, most likely its the router. Double check with the specs for Port forwarding online, and make sure the ports are open to allow you to play.

CoD in most instances uses the same ports for all there games. This is the first thing I found after looking through Google search. Hope it helps.

I've got a ps3 and call of duty 4+5, half the fun of the game is playing with a mate and I've had exactly the same problem as you. It just seems to be about trial and error sometimes, have tried connecting like you for over an hour before and then on other days it just connects wth my mate straight away.
Sometimes it helps to join a game(so you can see and hear other players) then invite your mate, if he/she to reply to your invite is quick sometimes you can get in that way.
The only other bit of advice is to try different times of the day as the load on the servers does change throughout the day, apart from that it really is an issue with activision and for me the playstation network

Don't worry, happens from time to time is just when they are doing stuff to the servers or making updates. Will sort itself out.
I've got cod5 and I get the same, the Playstation network is just a bit dodgy, lets hope they sort themselves out before
