SOURCE: model gss25wg. 5 years old. Worked fine when we got it home. Now

Try to remove rear wall of freezer to check frost pattern. An even but light patter of frost on full coil is normal. Coils full of frost with aluminum almost fully hidden generally means defrost problem. Heavier frost on the bottom coils and gradually tapering off as you go up until the top coils have no frost usually means a leak of freon or a bad compressor.

SOURCE: Compressor & Evap. Fan both work for 12 hours then evap stops

I believe that because defrost is done by the mother control board this is why this is happening the part of the board that controls defrost is malfunctioning and the only way to resolve the problem is to replace the mother board part number WR55X10656 You can find the replacement board at these places below. When I press the button to change the speed of the fan it does nothing, and continues to blow at one speed and it is just about equivalent to the speed of the slow option...any ideas why? Also it will run...

Is it new? There may something wrong with the electronic circuit board not allowing other fan speeds. Try unplugging it for a while and try again. There is a temp sensing bulb somewhere on unit most likely on front where hot/warm air from space enters unit. Make sure you are not recycling cold conditioned air back onto sensing bulb.

Kenmore Model 596.75513400. Can hear refridgerator motor running, but both top and freezer are thawing out. The settings for both are on maximum cold (7). What do you think?

Sounds like your defrost timer may have gone bad. Feel your walls and if they
are hard with no give then the fridge is froze up solid not allowing any air to
circulate. Neverless try this: Unplug for 24-48 hours. Place towels on floor to **** up
water. Plug back in. If the fridge gets cold then the defrost timer is bad. This will also reset your fridge.
Unfortunately this is not a cheap fix and consideration may have to be given on
replacing your unit.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. Don't forget to rate me.

Model 106.9630280 The freezer is working but

you probably have a bad air circulation fan or a restriction in the ductwork between the freezer and the refrigerator that the circulation fan supplies the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator compartment. you should be able to hear the circulation fan motor running when the unit is in normal operation mode. the only time the fan will not be running is when the unit is in defrost mode which occurs once every six to eight hours depending on the defrost timer in your unit.

Not blowing cold air

unplugged the unit, kept the doors closed about 10 to 12 hours plugged back in and in about 2 hours started blowing cold air into freezer another 4 hours was blowing cold air into refrigerator and continuily got back to the themostat settings, about 1 day. no food was lost because the doors were closed still keeping it cold. i think the fan in the freezer was frozen with ice,but could access it, not the main fan in the back the unit by the compressor, that was running fine. so basically i defrosted the freezer fan by unplugging it. this is the 2nd time in 4 years ive done this, well it beats spending 1000-1500 dollars to replace it TRY IT I HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU BEFORE YOU CALL FOR SERVICE,dave

Whirlpool stopped blowing cool air. Unplugged

It sounds as if your defrost timer has failed. Unplugging the unit over night allowed the unit to defrost. If unplugging it overnight or by using a stnd fan blowing into the freezer section for 90 minutes results in the fan blowing cold air then your unit is not defrosting. Most often the defrost timer is the problem. However there could be other defrost circuit like the thermostat or the defrost element. In order to provide you with the correct solution and defrost timer location you should privde your model number for further instructions.

Freezer works, refrigerator doesn't, fan is working, no cold air flow from freezer to refridgerater

Usually when this happens it is because of a problem with the fan that moves cold air from the freezer section of your unit to the refrigerator section. Either the fan has gone bad or the unit has frosted up to the point of stopping the fan. Try defrosting (unplugging) the unit over night and then check it to see if the fan runs. If not then replace the fan. If it runs and then stops after awhile like days or even a few weeks, then you may need a defrost timer.

I hope that this helps you to solve your problem.

Thank you for using Fixya!!

Freezer works Refrigerator will not cool down

The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

Refrigerator stopped cooling

The usual cause of this kind of problem is a defrost failure. If the failure is not caused by a failed timer or coil, it is usually easy to fix-uself. Defrost cycle is usually by timer. But if the air flow was blocked by food items the frost build-up will be more than it can melt and eventually cause blocked airflow. THis can also happen when outside temperature changes dramatically.

To fix it, clear the freezer side, open the panel to see the evaporator coil. If you see the blocked frost, it is exactly the problem. Use a hair dryer to help melting it or leave it unoperational for hours until it is clear of ice. Now replace the panel back (this forms the airflow from down to up), restart the frig. Done. You will notice cold air in a few minutes. Actual power (freezing ice cycle) will build in 3-4 hours.

I am not a repair technician. I solved the problem by myself.
