Problems installing WinXp on Compaq Presario C793TU
I just bought a Compaq Presario C793TU. The technical support told me that Windows Vista is the operating system to be used. The problem is that I have some programs that doesn't run smoothly on Vista. When I'm using my laptop for MIDI production, the instruments doesnt sound right specially the percussions and the volume is not as loud as I want. Also when I try playing GTA San Andreas, its running slowly. I tried installing WinXp but there are some files It couldn't copy specially the file extension .xml and .xdr and when it restarts, a dark screen only appears and no installation progress. What should I do to install Win XP?

First you should check to see if your machine is compatible with XP,
search your models spec sheet
Format this drive in another computer will do it,
Then replace it back into your machine again,
Open disk draw put in xp disk
restart and hit F5 continuously while its starting up
This should prompt the reinstall of the OS
Select to install a new and wipe all old info
use a quick format and the system install should be about 30min
reboot to save your settings
restart and check & test
dont forget to do the windows SP2 updates
Hope this helps for your mission.
Please let me know the outcome thanks

You cannot 'upgrade' Windows Vista to Windows XP - that is technically a 'downgrade' and would need you to save all your user data on Vista then format you Windows drive then do a clean install of Windows XP.
If you try to install XP over the top of Vista you will have lots of problems because of the difference in architecture and boot manager changes.
The only alternative would be to set up a dual-boot installation where you install XP alongside Vista but would be best done on either a separate disk partition or on a second disk. Normally such a dual-boot configuration would start with having XP installed then adding Vista as the second operating system.
to install a WinXP component u need the instalable WinXP CD(not the cd that came with you PC or a rescue disk)
Switch on PC, let the machine boot WinXP, after u get the Desktop, insert the WinXP CD, after the CD rom loads WinXP from CD, in the opening menu select:
"Install optional Windows Components:
in the next menue, select Accessories and Utilities (Tick the Box)
Click Next and u r done....shut down and re-start...
all the best
