I forgot my password for my rugged safe Lacie 500, and I can't seem to get the fingerprint thing to work, what can I do.

I think this is the setup disk, your 500gb disk will have have hundreds of gigabytes of free space, remember that 375.7 MB is roughly a third of 1 gigabyte.

I have a lacie rugged hard drive 500gb which was installed on a mac orginally and now wont be read on my windows 8. the only thing that shows is lacie SHARED. how do i get my windows to read the acutall...
You need a Mac Reader on your Windows 8 or you need software where you can use your Mac software on a Window System.

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password and privileges. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. The most common way that most of us know on how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing a battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard. Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. So by cutting off the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased. hope this helps

it possible you have bad sector in your disk drive, or your usb cable is not responding.... the best way to find out open your box then take off our hard drive and install it into a pc and see if the hard drive work... or you box it self the controller inside our external box maybe damage,

I have the Lacie Rugged hard drive 320,undetectable
Since you have tried connecting the hard drive (HD) into two computers (Win7 and Vista) and both of them had the same problem, you may want to try replacing the cable of the HD.

Another thing, try connecting the HD into a Windows XP computer and see if same thing will happen. If you're hearing a clicking sound while the HD is turned ON, I'm sorry to say but the HD is no longer working. That clicking sound is also called the "Click of Death".

When I start LaCie Safe Manager with my external HD plugged in (either via USB or firewire [10.6.x]), LaCie Safe Manager does not recognize that a LaCie product is connected. The HD is properly connected and is displaying a static green.
