Hello - The message is telling you that it can't find your hard drive, which is your boot disk.

You didn't give any info about what laptop you have so I can't tell you what more to do except to find out how to boot into your system BIOS and see if the system sees any hard drive at all. If not it's most likely your hard drive has died, but there can be less dramatic reasons for the error.

So look in your manual and find out how to get into the system BIOS or come back here and give more info about your laptop (make and model and operating system) and someone will take your further along in troubleshooting the problem.

    my laptop is an Acer Aspire and i did exactly wat u said but my dad thinks the hard drive is fried so if that is true wat can i do?

    Hello Again - If the machine is under warranty you have to get in touch with Acer and setup a return for repair.

    If it's no longer under warranty you can take it to any local repair shop to have the hard drive replaced. Replacing the hard drive is about a 30 min job and I don't know where you are but I'd estimate getting the same or slightly larger HD and your Windows reinstalled would cost approximately $150.

    Before you get anything repaired make sure you get at least a couple of estimates. There is an (unlikely) possibility that there is a problem larger than the HD and then you would have to reconsider the price of the repair vs. the cost of a new laptop.

    Good Luck,

My laptop says no bootable device insert disk what is wrong?

NO BOOTABLE DEVICE When the PC cannot see a boot file/disk on either the hard disk or floppy drive it gives an error message "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key" First thing, check to see if the is a floppy disk in the floppy drive, if so removes this disk. If there was no disk in the floppy drive then it may be a hard disk problem.
Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open the case and re-seat the data cable on the hard drive and also where it connects to the motherboard disk controller.
If it still gives this error message and the BIOS does not detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.
A further check on the hard drive, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port, if this computer does not detect it as an external storage device then the hard drive is faulty.
To get the computer operating again, install a new hard drive in your computer and then install Windows on this hard drive plus the computer's device drivers and your programs.

My gateway says "Check cable connection!PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key". What should I do?

Sounds like the hard drive isn't getting power,the data cable to the drive isn't connected,or the drive controller on the motherboard is toast(I'm a novice tinkerer,not an expert).

I have an Acer Aspire1 Netbook and below is the problem. Went to BIOS set defaults but still get the same thing: For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller... check cable connection PXE-MOF:exiting intel PXE...

A computer tries to "boot" from many devices:

* 3.5-inch floppy-disk (if available)
* USB memory-stick (if connected)
* internal CD/DVD device
* external CD/DVD device
* internal disk-drive
* over your network-cable, by talking to a "network boot server".

When it tries to boot over the network-cable, and *NO* "boot-server" responds,
you get the "check cable connection" and "exiting from P(re)(e)X(ecution)E(nvironment)" mode.

If it cannot boot from your 'C:' drive, and cannot boot from the network boot-server,
your computer responds "no bootable device" and "insert boot disk" (into CD or floppy-disk),
and "press any key" (to try again to boot).

What this USUALLY means is that your 'C:' disk-drive has stopped working,
meaning that Windows cannot be "booted" from it.

Seek help from a qualified technician to trouble-shoot your disk-drive, and/or to replace it, and/or to reinstall Windows, and/or to "repair" your existing Windows installation.
