If the needle bar is no longer available, the current needle bar can be repaired by cutting new threads in it and changing the screw. Not simple but not rocket science either. Most mechanics can do this.

Why does the sewing needle come undone whilst sewing

Your Needlebar screw is not being tightened enough. This is dangerous and you can risk other damage to the machine.
Untighten screw that allows the needle to be removed, using the sharp end of the needle, insert it into the same hole the needle base fit into. Clean out, using needle tip and can air if you have any.
Dust and cloth fluff get repeatedly shoved into the needle bar until the needle isn't inserted enough and effects sewing.

Also the needlebar "head" may need to be replaced if the set screw that holds the needle in the needlebar is stripped and no longer working to hold needle properly.

Get it looked at by a repair shopASAP! you can lose an eye to a flying needle fragment if that needle is coming lose during sewing.

How do I adjust the needle shaft position on my Hobbylock 788. It somehow shifted up.

take the end cap off and follow the needle bar up until you see a block with a screw in the middle of it.bring the needle bar down useing the handwheel to its lowest position loosen the screw and you should be able to move the needle bar if you have a needle threader you can use it to reset the height of the needle bar just bring the threader down and then lower the needle bar to where the threader fits into the eye of the needle like it would if it were being threaded

Needle will not stay in? i install needle, tighten thumb screw and the needle falls out??why??

Buy a new pack of needles to make sure you do not have defective needles, if that doesnt work get a new thumb screw and if it still doesnt work you need a new needle bar.

I have a hobbylock 776. The square box on the shaft that holds the needles is broken. I think the holes for the screws are stripped. I believe it is the needle bar. Can not find a part.

You will need a new needle bar. Call your local Pfaff Dealer, as this part is only available from them (if at all). The needle set screw holes could possibly be tapped and fitted with different screws as a last resort, but I wouldn't count on it.

My hobbylock 774 stops sewing...i've listen a plastic cracking...maybe i've broke something? It has all sewing thread strung...can you help me?

The 774 is a very nice serger. Take the needles out and turn the handwheel and listen for the noise. Put two NEW needles in and listen for the sound. If it isn't right, take it to a repair person before the problems escalate.

Needle keeps falling out of my overlocker hobbylock 774 by pfaff

The threads inside the screw hole are probably stripped. If so you will need to have them rethreaded and a different screw used or have the needle bar changed. For this you should see a technician.

The needles are changed by inserted the hex wrench into what looks to be holes on the front and left side where the needles go into the machine.I'm not sure what size the hex wrench is but it's pretty small. From the manual,
"Removing Needle: Unplug the machine. Turn the handwheel counterclockwise to raise the needle bar to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp with the allen wrench and pull the needle out." and
"Inserting needle: When the neddle bar is at the highest position, insert a new needle in the needle holder, making sure that the groove of the needle faces you. Push the needle as far up as it will go and tighten the needle clamp screw." "Removing Needle: Unplug the machine. Turn the handwheel counterclockwise to raise the needle bar to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp with the allen wrench and pull the needle out."

The machine takes DB x 1, or 1738 needles, and a size 14 needle is recommended.

Hope this helps!
