Belt squeeking

Dirt builds up in a dryer over time, belts wear and wheels that the drum rolls on can be worn. Once found a pager in a dryer. There is loose change and pencils and... taking the dryer apart, cleaning and lubricating and replacing the belt are maintenance items that are often ignored. Inconvenient, yes. Dirt is the enemy of mechanical equipment and dryers collect dirt and paper and anything left in pockets of clothes. A vacuuming and general clean and lube helps. Check for free rotation of the drum before and after and make not of the level of resistance with the dryer empty. Some other parts such as the drum wheels may have worn spots. Do it as soon as possible. DIY or a pro. If they let you watch, then you may be able to do some of the lighter work for yourself the next time. Or check out a DIY appliance repair book.

Hi,

There can be many reasons why your dryer will not start or turn...

The most common causes are the belt breaking or jumping off, or the motor going bad...

Here are a couple of tips that I wrote will help you to figure out why your dryer will not run...

I have a AD55 Dryer. When I turn it on it makes a sound but the dryer doesn't turn around.

Does the sound it makes sound like a motor running? When you start a dryer a motor that is coupled to the drum starts turning. It is possible that the belt has come off of the motor pulley. You will need to remove the back cover and look inside to determine if this has happened.

AD55 Dryer makes a dual clunk like it is out of round.

Run the dryer and look through the front door and watch for if the drum is running out of round at the back. The AD55 only has one bearing and this is at the rear of the drum, the front of the drum is supported by 6 plastic tabs that it glides over. These tabs are reversible if they become worn and a drum bearing assembly kit is available from Fisher & Paykel. For a detailed drawing of the dryer contact your Fisher & Paykel service center and they will email you a copy.

Fisher and paykel clothes dryer wont turn with clothes in it.

Hi
Most dryers work with a belt around the drum. Either the belt is stretched and needs replacement or there may be a belt tensioner which needs adjustment to tighten the belt.
What is happening in your case is that the belt is slipping on the drum as it is too loose.
Best wishes,
