Question about HP PhotoSmart C4180 All-in-One Color InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

PC won't recognize HP C4180

Suddenly my PC won't recognize my all-in-one. The printer turns on fine and will make a copy. I tried reinstalling the drivers, restoring factory defualts and leaving it unplugged for 5 minutes without any luck. I also tried using different cables. The computer only recognizes it as an unidentified USB device. I can't load the drivers via a windows prompt and can't get my PC to recognize the device as a printer. Does anyone have any advice before I throw this thing out the window?

I have heard that there is such a thing as having bad drivers, and that they must be deleted and new ones installed, I am not familiar with the procedure but I know that I have read this recently. This may guide you in the right direction, oh yes I remember now I recently read a solution by an expert here called: bandana_gyrl, she can probably explain this to you.

Copy feature doesn't make copies

  1. Turn on the HP All-in-One.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the unit.
  3. Press and hold the # and 3 buttons simultaneously.
  4. While still holding down the # and 3 buttons, connect the power cord to the back of the unit.
  5. Continue holding the buttons until the Power button blinks.
  6. Follow the instructions that display on the unit to select the language settings.
Then when that's done, try printing, or copying items. If its still not working, check the ink and change those out and this should fix it.

HP printer

Whenever I have an unexplained printer problem, I always find it easiest to delete the printer and readd it on my PC. I sometimes think the printers have a mind of their own and they secretly enjoy making us turn them off and back on, repeatedly. I would try this as a first option.
