Question about Toshiba 65HDX82 65" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Red is out of convergence

The red line is offset and cannot manually move it using the remote. Using touch focus button give touch focus error. REpair man says it going to cost $560 to repair. He say's the Digital Convergence module needs to be replace and there is no easy way to replace it. red touch focus error. how do I fix it? We are gettin a touch focus error and when we try to change convergance, red is the only one out of line and we can move it left to right but NOT up and down. The problem is much worse on the right side of the screen then the left. Any ideas on things to try or cost of repair or part? Thanks for your help. Michele Mehalovich [email protected] same problem

I have the same problem. Did you get yours fixed? I heard you can go into a service menu and adjust the red. What is the code to get into the service menu anyone know?

We have a projection Toshiba Tv that we bought in 2004 and lately every time you turn on the tv there are lines going through it and you have to hit the touch focus button every time in order for the

Touch focus adjusts at a limited number of places the convergence--next time it does this go into menu with the remote and look for CONVERGENCE in the menu, you will be able to call up a grid of lines or crosses--point here is to see if red or blue are out of position, if so with the remote adjust there and see if it stays when next turned on.

I tell most people with this brand NOT to use the touch focus--it tends to misadjust things and does not SAVE the adjustments it makes---the ones in the customer and hidden tech menu will be saved.

Checking to see if a convergence problem and if so adjusting manually is the first step---may solve your problem and do not keep using the touch focus----its a joke in the repair industry.

R56w36 convergence problem. color misaligned. Ghosts.

Dear Sir:

Thank you for contacting fixya.

Please follow the steps below.

green is fixed so you have to move red and blue to green.
by using the remote you may find a simple converge function and open this and using arrow keys move the blue or red first to center of screen, repeat for other color you should see the lines moving toward a a white center point.

if the lines do not move with remote try manual ...menu on the set. if still no movement you have a problem on the convergence board and need a tech to fix.

A service manual will explain complex convergence to the detail .
but this might take hours to get it right.

Please feel free to get back to me If you need any further assistance.
Regards,
Mohammed.

We have a 46" Hitachi TV that suddenly after the cable man hooked up a new receiver box has gone funky! The top left of the screen is wavy down about a third of the screen and the wording is...

What you just described is a convergence issue, Now most tv's have a auto focus button on them or the remote try giving that a push (if your tv has it) I cannot go by the model above because fixya has categorization errors or people select the wrong tv.

But this is a convergence issue if the focus button does not take care of it your going to need repair.

thanks for using fixya.com , please do leave positive feedback or ratings, Thanks

"touch focus error" appears when the test is completed. There is a double effect showing on the pictures and the words. What can be done to fix this?

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

The convergence ICs and the six 1.8 ohm 1watt resistors need to be replaced. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com which has the Two Convergence ICs and the six resistors plus the CD with instructions on how to do the repair.

Convergence -manual

Replace the convergence amps and test and replace any or all of the 2.2ohm resistors in the yoke return path out in front of the amps. This unit takes two STK392-110 Sanyo originals, DO NOT GET CHINESE KNOCK-OFFS... Buy them from Acme sales out of Florida and you can be assured they're originals.
