There is probably something running in the background that you may not know about. Some apps have a tendency of running even if you think you have exited it. I know Skype had a issue where it would not actually stop running even when you exited out of it.
Go to the Market and download an app called Current Widget. It keeps a log of running apps and services and how much current each of these pulls from the battery. You can look at the log and try to pinpoint the troublesome app or service. If it's a app you don't need, uninstall it. If it's an app you need, you may be able to force quit by using a task manager.
Good luck.

Battery Tips for the Sprint HTC Hero.....

Battery life on cells phone, especially the hoard of smart phones coming out, can be very short, especially right out of the box. The following are some tips to extend the time between chargings for the Sprint HTC Hero (and probably the European Hero as well as the Verizon Eris).

• update your system software to version 1.56. To check which version you have, go to Settings > About phone > scroll to see software version. To update, go to Systems updates from the same menu, and select Firmware update.
• turn the brightness down of your screen. The brighter the screen, the more juice you use from the battery. Go to Settings > Sound and Display > Brightness.
• turn off bluetooth, wifi, GPS, and mobile web when not in use. I place these widgets on one of my screens to have easy on/off access. Go to (+) > HTC Widget > Settings. I turn off everything at night, turn on mobile web during the day, and turn on the others as I need them.
• turn off the "Always On Mobile Network" setting. Go to Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile network settings > Enable always-on.
• limit the amount of push to sync email and other applications.
• turn of the automatic updates for apps like Weather, Facebook, Twitter, email. With the apps constantly checking and pulling data, the battery will drain much quicker.

I can usually go about two days between chargings with moderate use and three days with light use.

Good luck.

How do you get the upgrade the htc hero to 2.1

Getting Started

Before you run the ROM Update Utility (RUU), make sure you have done the following:

  • Backed up the data on your device.
  • Standby or hibernation mode of your PC has been disabled.
  • Close all running applications on the PC.
  • Set aside approximately 25 minutes to allow the device to update.
  • Charged the battery to at least 30%.
  1. Download HTC Sync for Android.

Install the HTC Sync software on your PC if it is not already installed. This software was included in your HTC Hero gift box. The minimum required HTC Sync version is 2.0.28. We have HTC Sync for Android 2.0.40 available for download; newer versions might be available from www.htc.com.

HTC Sync for Android 2.0.40 (39MB)

  2. Download the Hero 2.1 MR Upgrade executable file.

    Hero 2.1 Upgrade (113MB)

  3. Connect your HTC Hero to your PC.

    Use the supplied USB cable.

If the HTC Sync application appears on the screen of your PC, you may simply dismiss the wizard by pressing the Cancel button.

  4. Run the Hero 2.1 MR Upgrade RUU file.

Follow the on-screen prompts to install the update for your HTC Hero
WARNING: During the upgrade process, do not attempt to make/receive calls, press any buttons on your device or disconnect the device from the USB cable as this will stop the update and your device may be rendered inoperable!

If you have a problem with the connection between your device and PC be sure to check the connection type in your device. This can be done in the device via Settings -> Connect to PC. Ensure that HTC Sync is selected.

On HTC Hero msg occurs when using any google related service including app market, browser, etc... process com.google.gapps has stopped

The best thing to try is to do a factory reset on the phone to get it back to factory status. I've had to do this on my Android phone a few times. make sure to back up your data first. After you do this, see if you can access your accounts on Google before installing anything else.

My HTC hero will not allow me to delete text messages which is taking up all my memoery

My Hero used to take ages to delete messages and often used to freeze when it was doing it. However now my phone is running 2.1 update it deletes perfectly fine. Check if your phone is on 2.1 update, go to settings, about phone, software informations and it is the firmware version your looking at. If your phone is running lower then 2.1 update then go to settings, system software updates and press check now. If it says there is an update available then download it. Overwise you will have to download an app. The app i suggest is called 1-click cleaner, it allows you to quickly delete all the messages on your phone from the app. Hope this is of help to you.

Your Speaker is burnt out just found that out with mine today. Took it to Sprint store Tech & they replaced it with a brand new speaker free of chg because I have insurance otherwise you'll be charged about $40
