Why are the batteries dying so quickly in my Kodak 12MP?

It depends, if you are using regular Alkaline batteries, those are known to go dead really fast. Better if you try some rechargeable batteries with a rating of at least 2100mAh, anything smaller than that will drain just as quick as Alkalines.

I have loaded 4 new AA batteries and try to take a pic and "battery empty' appears in scrren and will not take a picture.

Be sure to have real fresh alkaline AA of fresh recharged NiMh batteries.

Good rechargeable batteries are Sanyo ENELOOP NiMh batteries, which have a very, very low own discharge. Some other brands have them too.

It's been sittting for quite a whils with the battery out. With a freshly-charged battery, it won't start up now, pressing and hlding buttons gets only a second of display.

Insert freshly charged batteries, Turn camera "ON" then remove batteries. While batteries removed, press and hold the shutter button for about 30 seconds. Insert batteries, turn "ON" then press the reset button on the bottom of the camera.

I put new batteries in and it still says battery dead. is there a battery within the camera also

silly question, but have you tried different fresh batteries? sometimes batteries go dead in the store, especially if they are cheap batteries. try another fresh set.

Even with new batteries, the camera turns off after a few seconds

Be sure you have real fresh Alkaline batteries or fresh recharched NiMh batteries.
The best rechargeable batteries are the ENELOOP (from Sanyo), these have a very, very low discharge, so after a week the camera still works without the problem of turning off after a few seconds.

I put fresh batteries in it and it tells me to change them

Hello.

Either the batteries were not inserted correctly or the fresh batteries have expired or 1 or more is faulty.

Hope this helps.

Pentax K100D will not power up

First make sure you are using fresh lithium batteries. These cameras indicate low batteries quite early on. Rechargeables even when freshly charged are marginal.

If the problem persists remove the batteries. Set the camera switch to the off position. Set the focus switch to manual. Wait at least a minute. Then replace the batteries and switch on again.

Operating with low batteries can confuse the firmware and it may be stuck in a low-battery loop. If this is the case this should reset the camera by allowing the electronics to power-down completely.

If this does not work you wiil have to contact pentax support.
