Dell Axim X5 connecting to Belkin wireless router

I have a Dell Axim X5 pocket pc. I purchased a Belkin Wireless G Router - 2.4Ghz 802.11g. My laptop recognizes the router. My Dell Axim X5 does not. I have a wireless networker 802.11b card inserted into my pocket pc. How can I get them to recognize each other. Thanks.

The Axim X5 I have does not have a wireless ethernet icon or wireless tab. It has a (beam) icon which I guess is to connect to the wireless router. Doesn't connect. I don't know much about this so be patient with me. Still need help. Thanks.

  • Anonymous Aug 13, 2008

Do you understand what I am saying? I have a Dell Axim X5, not a Axim X51. They are different. The web page you keeping sending me is for a Axim X51, not a Axim X5. Problem not resolved, because you keep sending me the wrong information.

Here try these steps.

1 Install the network card driver, if required.
See the documentation that came with your network card.
2 Insert the network card into your device.
• If a network with a broadcast SSID is detected, the wireless
network icon, , and the New Network Detected bubble
appear in the navigation bar. Go to step 3.
• If a network with a broadcast SSID is not detected, skip to
step 4.
3 Tap The Internet or Work, depending to which type of network you
are connecting. Your device automatically connects to the network.
NOTE: If multiple networks are detected, tap the network to which
you want to connect, tap The Internet or Work, and tap Connect.
4 Tap the Start buttonSettingsConnections tabConnections.
www. d e l l . c o m | s u p p o r t . d e l l . com
Getting Connected 109
5 Tap the Wireless Ethernet icon.
6 On the Wireless tab, tap New Settings.
7 Enter the SSID next to Network Name, and select whether the
network connects to the Internet or work.
8 Tap the Authentication tab to enable or disable WEP settings,
depending on your network type.
9 Tap OK.
When your device successfully connects to the network, your
connection status appears under Wireless Networks.

7 Enter the SSID next to Network Name, and select whether the
network connects to the Internet or work.
8 Tap the Authentication tab to enable or disable WEP settings,
    depending on your network type.
    9 Tap OK.
When your device successfully connects to the network, your

are you getting any error message?

  • Anonymous Aug 13, 2008

What is the brand of your wireless router?

Does it have a wireless security enabled on it?

Does your pocket pc sees the ssid or the name of your network from the router?

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2008

    Ruth,

Sorry for the replies, I checked the current problem that you have. I am assuming that your pocket pc is not seeing the router. Since there is a computer that can get online through the router via the wireless connection. It is possible that the wireless on you pocket pc is not enabled. This could be the reason why your network name is not showing on your pocket pc. I am thinking that the wireless is off on your pocket pc. You can check this link, this will be for the Axim X51, but they might have the same steps on how you enable or turn on the wireless on your pocket pc. this is the link. http://wifi.aximsite.com/wm5.html

Have you tried to check if the wireless on your pocket pc is turned on? I sent you a link before but I thought of posting it here. This is for the Model AXim 50. But this might be the same steps you need to do to turn on the wireless so that it will see your network like what your lapto is doing. I hope this one helps.

Windows Mobile 5.0 changes many features from the previous version but the wireless configuration, at least as it has been implemented on the Dell Aximâ„¢ X51 PPCs with built-in wireless is not very different from the Axim X50s. The hardware is almost identical, with a WiFi hardware button on the left side. You can also turn on wireless through the WLAN utility by tapping the WLAN icon on the lower right of the Today page (see arrow on figure X51-1) or by selecting Start, Settings, Connections (tab), and the Dell WLAN Utility (figure X51-2). Most of the instructions below are identical to the WM03SE page but specific suggestions will be made for the X51 as they become apparent.

This gives you a page like X51-3 and tapping "Turn on" will activate the wireless. Also notice the Power save mode options on this page. While this feature does reduce battery usage, having it enabled will cause problems accessing websites on many brands of home wireless routers. Once activated and within range of a wireless network, the PPC will ask you for the type of connection (Figure X51-4). Typically, you should select Work (yellow arrow) for a home network, then tap Connect (green arrow) and you will be automatically connected. If the network is secure, it will then ask you for the key. WEP keys should be entered in hexidecimal format (10 characters for 64-bit, 26-characters for 128-bit). [Note: I suggest you temporarily disable security when first connecting to your home network but it should be enabled once you are sure the connection is working.]

The WLAN icon in the lower right turns green and the connection icon on the top toolbar changes to indicate that the wireless is connected (Figure x51-5).

I have a dell axim x5 and it connects to my pc and internet fine when its on the docking station. I just need it to connect to my wireless internet connection wirelessly....

The X5 does NOT have wireless built in. You must add a wireless card (compactflash or SD) They tend to be finicky so do a little research for one that works well with the X5 first before buying.

Recieving and sending E-mail

The Dell Axim X5 has Microsoft Pocket Outlook pre-installed, so use that instead of MSN Messenger to e-mail. MSN Messenger is just meant for instant messaging.
You can fill in your e-mailaddress and server-data, while offline, but to sign in with any of those programs you'll need an internet connection, so you first need to connect to a wireless network, that's in range. If there is no wireless network, you have access to, you'll not be able to use these programs.

What do you mean with a wireless card? Is there no wireless card in the PDA, or don't you have a wireless network? To set up a wireless network, you need a wireless router, or WLAN-router.

Success, and just ask if you need more help

AXIM X5

To copy word documents, simply connect your device to your computer, click "Explorer" in ActiveSync, and then transfer the word document from your desktop to your Pocket PC. ActiveSync will do the conversion from Word to Pocket Word for you. As for wireless internet service, you need a wireless Compact Flash card and data service. Sprint is one of the few companies that offers this, and there is also the Pocket Spider from Enfora which can connect on some wireless networks.
