Question about Danby DFF8802 Top Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

My Danby Model DFF8802W has some issues. The fan located at the rear of the freezer has stopped working. I've had to limp the unit along by turning up the thermostat to the coldest setting. The freezer barely freezes on the top shelf, but good on the bottom and the fridge temp is to warm. I suspect I need to replace the fan motor but was wondering if there may be another issue, ie thermostat/sensors that has kept the fan from working. I have found a source (Sears) for a replacement fan but wanted to see if there was any other trouble shooting I could do before buying the fan.

SOURCE: Temperature - Is fan supposed to constantly run or is it controlled by thermostat

You said ,Top half of Danby DKC645BLS refrigerator 10 degrees warmer than bottom half. Bottom half cooling to approx. 34 degrees.

Is it running all the time without cycling off and on as it should be doing?
Sorry to have to tell you this news.
But this would mean a bad thermostat or insufficient freon in the cooling system.

The same issue with the fact that one compartment is warm and the other is cool!

Let me know that service tells you!

Thank You

SOURCE: this is a Danby refrigerator

fault is the thermostat. auto defrost on a fridge (but not a freezer) is a function of the thermostat

Sounds like the fan can be running backwards. I'm not sure of you exact model, but it has to match the air flow of the original unit. Do you remember? Some manufacturers use reversable motors and are some what easy to reverse.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Danby DFF282WDB stopped cooling - light comes on - any troubleshooting we can do?

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You are locked into the defrost mode. This is when every 8-10 hours your unit will shut down for 20-30 minutes and your defrost heater comes on and defrost your freezer cooling (Evaporator) Coil. During this cycle everything shuts down except for the light.

Your controls are usually located on the top of your fresh food section. On the bottom of your controls, near the front, left hand side there is a round hole. This is where your defrost timer is located.

With a large flat head screw driver turn clockwise. You will hear a clicking sound. Turn slowly one click a time until your unit turns on. This unit will have to be replaced. Until it is replace manually turn it off every 10 hours for 20 minutes.

Note the round stub on the left.

Just a thought i would check if there. Is it possible an ice build up around the fan could be stopping it from turning?

My Leisure HJA6100 icemaking unit is making a terrible noise, which stops when I open the freezer door. It's just a year old, what could be causing this noise?

Your evaporator fan motor would be the cause of your noise. Yes, it can be repaired, just need to replace the fan motor. The noise stops when you open the door because the fan motor turns off when the door is open.

Freezer is cold but the bottom is not getting cold

When the freezer is cold but the refrigerator is not this could be due to a couple instances. One of the first things that you would do would be to remove the rear panel on the inside back wall of the freezer. There are a couple 1/4" screws that you would remove and then remove the panel which would give you access to the evaporator coil in the unit. If you removed the rear panel and noticed any ice build up on the evaporator coil this is considered a defrost issue in which either the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, or the defrost timer or adaptive control would need to be tested to assure which of these parts had the fault. Message me back if you do find the ice build up and I will explain how to test each piece. Another thing that you would notice above the evaporator coil would be the evaporator fan motor if this is not running then no air is pushed into the refrigerator side of the unit. If you did have the fan running and no ice build up the next thing that you would look at would be the diffuser or damper door which is usually located on the rear wall and is a small door that opens and closes letting the cold air into the refrigerator side. This diffuser door is also controled by a thermostat control which is usually attached to the knob that you would use to turn up or down the tempreture in the refrigerator. If you have any further questions message me back along with the make and model number of your unit as well. With the make and model number provided I can give a more exact solution instead of an overall generic one to the issue your refrigerator is having at this time. I will await your reply to if there is ice build up on the evaporator coil and if the evaporator fan is working as well as any further questions that you may have. Thanks Rick

Our Danby DFF8850 is having temperature control problems. The refridgeration portion is resetting to 9 on it's own and freezing our juice, yogurt, etc. Meanwhile our Freezer section is not cold enough....

First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Check cold control (thats where you turn it colder)

My freezer comes on when switched on, then cuts out before getting to temp, then does not come back on. Throughout this, the fridge works no problem.

Seems like you have a bad thermostat, you should Unplug the appliance and take off the light cover to gain access to the thermostat.

Look carefully at the thermostat and you'll see the terminals are numbered, write down these numbers and go get a replacement part for your refrigerator.

Hotpoint Mistral Fridge Freezer, freezer working fine at -22 degrees, however, fridge has stopped working and is on +19 degrees. Had an E8 error message a few weeks ago which was quick fixed with a turn on...

Evaporator thermistor is on the radiator located at the back of the fridge. Older fridges had a big on aircooled along the entire back of the fridge whilst the newer ones have it under the fridge with a fan cooling it. 90% of the time the fan gives up causing this type of issue.
