Question about GE PDS22SBRLSS Bottom Freezer Refrigerator
The fridge has not been cooling for a week now but the side freezer has been ok .Now the freezer is not freezing and there is frost built up on back wall a little. This is a GE 5 year old side by side model that is frost free.
What kind of repairs am I looking at,how costly and should I just plan on getting a new unit?
Problem is that the defrost system is not working.
remove back panel inside freezer and you will find pipework is full of ice. melt off carefully with a hairdryer. appliance will now work as this serves as a temporary repair
fault finding is not so easy but check that the defrost heater is not open circuit and check the thermal fuse in series with the heater is ok.
some frostfree are controlled by a simple mechanical timer which can also be faulty. if electronically controlled, you may be looking at a new module. get back to me if you want more help
