Sounds like the fixing exit sensor flag is missing or broken. I would look into that and just a note... I had a strange jamming problem with one as well. It turned out to be the registration clutch. I cleaned the clutch and it worked......
There are a lot of conditions that cause the red light to come on. These include toner cartridge empty, paper jam, waste toner tank full, etc. The only good way of determining the printer fault is to check the smart panel software on your computer. It will tell you what the printer is experiencing.
If the printer can't pick up the paper, check the condition of the paper pickup roller. It is located in the back, and above the paper tray. Often it get dirty and cleaning it with a damp cloth helps it to pick up paper better. Hope this helps you.
Have you taking out the paper tray and look inside for a piece of paper jammed behind the paper tray. Also, make sure the paper guides in the paper tray are tight against the paper in the tray & make sure the copier is on a level surface. You may also, need the paper feed rollers or clutch. If you need to make copies, use the by - pass tray on the right side.
If your copier isn't very complex in its design, you may be able to locate the little rubber wheels that pull your paper in initially. If you can get to them, I recommend spraying them with some rubber rejuvenator. This will not come off on any future copys, just follow the instructions on the can. If the issue is a lifting mechanism, that will require parts and possibly a technician. Let me know!
pull out the cartridge and look for paper inside, re-install cartridge, also look on the back part where the fuser and exit assembly is look for paper jammed. also make sure the paper is set correctly on the tray.
