I would suggest installing your new carb on the saw first and make sure it runs right, try cutting with it, then if you are satisfied take a small scredriver and pry off the caps without mutilsting them and push them on your new carb with taking care not to spin or turn them., I have seen where people leave them off and take a dremmel tool and cut slot in splined jets so that if you had to turn them it would just take a small flat blade. hope this helps you with the problem

there may be limiter caps on the adjusting screws depending on which part of the country you live in. if there are limiter caps, an authorized servicing dealer must make this adjustment for you.

What tool is needed to adjust H & L on a Husqvarna 142 chainsaw ?

This machine has a carb with splined adjuster screws, the toll to adjust them is part no. 530035560, it is readily available however i heard that the dealers in the US are very reluctant to sell it to end useres, so you may have to buy off the web.

When cutting and after letting off throttle saw runs for maybe 10 seconds and then stalls. Have to constantly restart because will not continue to idle. Runs fine at full power just will not idle for any...

The carb may well have anti tamper sleeves on the jet screws, or will need a special splined tool to adjust them, the tool is part no. 530035560, if there are caps you will have to gently screw a self tapping screw into the end, when it hits the head of the screw behind it will draw off, you only need to adjust the L screw, i would suggest turning out 1/8 of a turn to richen it up a little.

Carburetor tool

Unless you are skilled enough to make your own, you are stuck taking the saw to a servicing dealer as they are the only ones allowed to possess the necessary 'D' head screwdriver. Give thanks to the EPA for mandating the prevention of mal-adjustment pollution.

Can't find a husqvanna chain saw carburator adjustment tool . It's for a 16" blade. There is a little hole that a tool goes into for adjustment. A screwdriver won't work. Help?

You may have the one that uses splined adjustment screws rather then limiters. If you do you can order this from your husky dealer. You can tell if you have limiter caps by shining a light through the screw hole and see if caps are white or red.If black you have round splined needle ends that take a hard to get adjustment tool.
