The lamp light should NOT be RED.
The lamp light should be yellow for the lamp timer warning.

There are two ways of retting the lamp timer=
1) on the TV use the vol - button. push until vol goes to zero, then keep holding it down
on the REMOTE push the "split" button

the yellow light should go out indicating that the lamp timer has been reset
if this fails to work,
on the REMOTE, use the "PLAY" button, instead of "split".
you may have to try this a few times to get it to "take". you'll know when the YELLOW lamp light goes out.

However, a RED LAMP light means you lamp is not working or missing.
reseat your new lamp into the TV...and be certain the LAMP DOOR is securely CLOSED.

Hi, I have the fix for you....EXIT out of the message telling you to reset you meter. Now you need to push the - vol (neg vol) button on you set, at the same time push the split button on your remote (very bottom of the remote is the split button with the vcr controles) You need to push these at the same time for 20 or more seconds and you will recieve a message that the metter has been reset. Exit out of that message and all should be fine. Took me about 15 minutes to get to a tech to walk me through it.

Lamp meter on Panasonic PT-40LC12 ?

I just had my picture go out two weeks ago. I took it to a local tv repair shop. They replaced the thermal fuse. I also had a spare lamp so they also replaced that. I'm not sure if they reset the lamp meter but this is what I found surfing around...try at your own risk. I'm going to try this when I go home tonight.

Good Luck...

Press the power button to turn the unit on.
While pressing the Vol-(volume down) button on the projection display,
hold down the PIP button on the remote control at the same time for more
than 5 seconds. When the reset procedure is complete the following message
will appear on the screen. "Lamp time was reset to 0".
