Im using yahoo messenger 11 and couldn't log in. i follow the trouble shoot instruction and its been 2 days now, still cant sign in to yahoo.

try to proceed with secutiry question/answer path.. and also check your log-id and as well password matching.. last but not least there may be a chance of hack..

try updating the install or uninstall and reinstall n make sure you are using correct sign in info

i got the same problem with my ym 11 too.. but honestly looks like its ym problem that it may just work whenever it want to.. :( but try this.. open Yahoo Messenger click on "Messenger" (on top), choose "Connection Preferences" select "Connect via Proxy Server" try to log in ..
if it doesn't work put it back to the original settings, same instruction go to YM, click Messenger then Connection Preferences select "Connect directly to the Internet".. this time try to disconnect your internet connection first.. and then with your YM open enter your username & password but dont click "connect" yet.. connect to internet & log in to ym (you should click "connect on ym right after a second you are connected to the internet)

uninstall yahoo im then reinstall if that doesnt solve the issue then try starting it in compatability mode

2) users who opt for a default browser other than IE may be neglecting to keep IE up to date unaware that IE plays a crucial part in the running of Yahoo Messenger. I use Firefox as my default but note the amount of cleaning in IE when I run ccleaner.
3) Start your trouble shooting with a clean browser
Download 'ccleaner' and run it through a couple of times,using the factory settings and the 'Run Cleaner' control until 0 bytes are seen to be cleaned following a scan
Run the 'Registry' from the left hand toolbar but 'Save' any changes after opting to 'repair' errors.

After updating check you do not have old versions of Flashplayer, Shockwaveplayer and Java running alongside the latest - this can cause conflicts
Start / control panel / programs
delete any old versions
8) If your log-in fails, interrogate the troubleshooting log for 'failed items'
Two Yahoo servers are used for initial log-ins
The log-in server checks your username and password are correct
If this has 'failed' check your IE can access a secure website by signing in here

No luck? check IE settings >Tools > Internet options > Connection tab > LAN > 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' > Advanced - Under 'Proxy address to use' check the info in 'Secure' and 'Port' are correct > OK for each window.
The connection server helps find the right location to synchronise with other servers- if this shows 'failed' change your YM settings to connect via a proxy.This can be done from the menu on the sign in page > Messenger > Preferences > Connection -adjust settings > Apply > OK
If all else fails - try dis-abling your firewall and do a test sign in.

My own advice is:-

1) Start your troubleshooting with a clean browser
Download and run CCleaner daily - to keep your browsers fully operational

Use the settings as downloaded - Click on the 'Run Cleaner' tab until '0 bytes removed'

2) Shutdown computer - power off the router for one minute - restart computer

3) Have more than one browser available for trouble shooting. Keep browsers up to date to incorporate all the patches - I run Firefox, Google Chrome and IE. Keep one browser clear of add-ons and plug-ins.
Always have the browser you are using designated as default - even if you only have one

4) Make sure Yahoo toolbar is up to date if you have it

5) Sign in here to reset cookies

6) If you have a Yahoo email address:- drop the '@Yahoo.com' from your username to sign in

7) Check the date and time are correct on your computer

8) If you have your settings to sign in automatically and recently changed your password check this out

12) Time to consider a re-install.
Save your Profile folder to hard disk, if you wish to retain your message archives.
Download 'Revo free' and uninstall in the 'Advanced'mode. This will scan your C drive and Registry for anything left behind after it runs the yahoo uninstall software. Delete everything it finds.
