My Lacie Rugged 500 US/400/800 drive ejects automaticaly. It show connected in system profiler, but not in disk utility. when i disconnect and reconnect, it shows on desktop only after doing so 3-4 times...

It may be the cable that you are using to connect it to your computer. Are you using a USB or Firewire cable to connect? To me it seems like the cable may be damaged, and that it why it disconnects after a few seconds, like it is not getting enough power to run the drive.
If you have one to hand, try another cable. or if you can try a different type of cable (if you are using USB at the moment, try a firewire)
Also, (I have the same drive) if you are using it with an USB cable you will need the power usb adapter plugged in as well as this drive does not get enough power from a single USB cable.
Hope this helps.

LaCie 500GB portable hard drive is giving error 43. It was working fine for a few weeks and now I can't get into it from either of my computers. I tried uninstalling the USB Controllers but still same...

The symptoms indicate there is a problem with the drive, how it is connected, or with the computer used for troubleshooting. The next best step is to change physical variables, and find a simpler problem than a broken product.
  • Change the data cable (USB, FireWire, Ethernet, etc.) A failure in the cable can cause this issue.
  • Change the external power supply or cable. If a different LaCie product is available, borrow the power cabling from that unit to see if the problem is in that component. On drives that are powered via USB or Firewire, try using the included power sharing cable and connect it to a second port.
  • Change the computer you are using. Computer problems can manifest themselves in many ways. Even if the computer appears to be working properly, this is a worthwhile test.
Then run

Lacie 500gb quadra external drive won't boot using USB cables.

Microsoft has had some issues in regard to external devices (especially after running some updates). There is a registry patch for this situation. Click below to install the patch. It should fix your external drive problem. All the best!

Firewire/USB

Hi beccarkt,

Although not sold at Best Buy™, there are available adapters/cables to make this transfer possible. I recommend using a search engine to find "firewire to usb." Hopefully this will give you the results you need.

Thank you,

Having Problem with both LaCie hard drives being recognized on both macs

Try to connect to another computer, and see if it recognizes the drive. If Not, you can dismantle LaCie and take the disk out.

Connecto your disk to another external box (USB or Firewire) so you can have access to you data.

Daisy chain my external hard-drives

I don't think these drives are designed to be daisy chained. This worked for SCSI drives, but not for USB drives.

Can't accept Quadra 500 on my owerMac G5 Quad

Scrap LAcie!! Sounds like in this case, it may have been jostled around during shipping. None the less, Lacie drives are nothing more than bricks waiting to fail. Go Western Digital, but if oyu can, zip straight for Seagates!!!! Professional grade!! ALways check the cables, the ones that come with them are bottom bin cables, made by little singapore children with no fingers..... Invest in a good cables...a drive is only as good as the weakest datalink.

Cash on the warranty!!!

Keep me posted.

Two units conflict when connected thru Firewire 400

Windows XP and most pcs running it does not natively support firewire,as it was developed by Apple computers. Most Firewire ports on PCs are 4 pin. Your PCI card ( and I take it, its a desktop youre referring to ) should have a 6 pin connection. Firewire connections also have a 7 watt supply via the bus. You may need to open the computer and see if the molex jack on the card is being powered by your computers power supply. Two firewire drives, especially the power hungry Lacie quadras, may be to much consumption for the card. Hope this helps.

Lacie 1000gb external drive

I own a Lacie product that does the same thing. It uses firewire but it was clicking a few times and then would not display as a drive. I moved to another computer (with a different firewire card) and it worked. I decided that the firewire card was the issue at the time, but the card still read other devices like digital video camera. I know you are using the USB 2.0 cable. Can you try your drive on a different computer? That would narrow the possible solutions down.

LaCie 500 GB hard Drive - does not register on my desktop

if it is a USB (or you have low disc space), it does take longer to show up on desktop and patience is required... on my iBook it takes over a minute for my Brick to show up... Whether it is USB or firewire, do try another cord (I had similar problem with my lacie firewire external... I used a different firewire cord and all was fine. If you have tried these already, I hope you find the answer... good luck
