The camera may display a FORMAT ERROR if the inserted media is not formatted or if the media was formatted on a computer. This error may also display if the inserted media is not supported by the camera. Please make sure that you're using either CD -R disc which does not require formatting or CD -RW disc. If you're using any other discs like CD +RW, CD+R may arise the error message. If the issue persists with a new different CD -R disc, service may be required for the Camera.
If a FORMAT ERROR message is displayed,
then the inserted disc is not formatted or it is recorded in a
different format not useable by the camcorder. If using a DVD-RW or
DVD+RW, format the disc prior to use. Otherwise, use a different disc.
I have same TOSHIBA D-VR4XSU VCR/DVD RECORDER. According to the
manual, you (COULD) can use for recording: DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R (see page 50). WRONG!!! I bought all 3 types of discs, but after few
weeks I got same experience you got now. Just type DVD-R works. The other
types were - wasted money and a lot of time trying to finalize the disc. I had to
throw all into the garbage. Try DVD-R and you should?? be O.K.
I have got exactly the same problem. Thought I had found some discs that worked as the first one formatted, since then all have come up with that crappy error protection message. Samsung really should sort this out.
