Gateway FPD2185W - Picture goes off after logo

I have a problem similar to the 'capacitor' problem, but also have a problem with what may be a MOSFET transistor or something (voltage reg??!)

There are four T-220 package components, the back of the board is burnt, one is cracked Two have BE 5235 and D408 on them, two have BE 5X24 and D405. One is cracked and has a small bump in the case, I would imagine this part is smoked.

A couple caps are bulging, will replace them while I am in there. Any source for these parts??

Hmmmm.... my board doesn't look anything like yours...
what is the manufacture date of your monitor? Perhaps it's an earlier version?

Here's what the power board looked like inside mine (with the new capacitors installed):

I replaced all my capacitors and it's been working great... BUT it blacked out again this morning.
I cycled the power cord and it came right back on, so I don't know what to do next.
I'm guessing the power regulators, but some of mine had their numbers sanded off.
Probably Gateway's idea to screw you out of fixing it yourself.

Oops.... I see where those transistors are... they were on the backside... My bad... sorry.

I was thinking of the parts on the component-side of the board. Some of mine are sanded so you can't tell what they are.

If any of you still have these monitors, and wish to sell them, i am interested in finding some to use as spare parts if i can’t get them working. send email to [email protected].
I have two of these that i have already repaired successfully.
Or if you would like to have me repair for you.

What it looks like you have there are Dpak (TO-252) transistors, I am going to guess that they are 30 volt amp rated ones and 5 to 7 amps
Trick to finding them is maybe trying to identify the logo letters in front of the d408 number.(looks like 406 on the picture)
Other than that is to take a gamle on a standard dpak transistor. These are obviously toasted so it can't make it any worse !!

    Did some searching.

They are transistors by Alpha Omega

    Search AOD408 and AOD405

I HAVE A Gateway FPD2185W that goes on for a split second then goes black I have already changed the 8 capacitors that i was told to change is there anything else i can do because it still does the same...

make sure there are no briged solder connections. make sure all the inside connectors were properly inserted into the connection on the boards. Check to see if you have the correct input settings by pressing the pushbuttons on the right lower side of the monitor. check all cables or switch to dvi or agp cables.

The next thing to try would be to resolder all of the connections on the transformers in your monitor. If you can take a few pictures of the board and email them to me I will mark the points to check and send it back to you.

Gateway monitor fpd2185w goes to sleep and then shuts off

I suggest to mess around with the monitor buttons and see if you can disable it from sleeping from there. If not then try enabling it to sleep on your computer settings. A good restart after any changes is always helpful.

Gateway fpd2185w capacitor fix question

to take solder off you can get some cross wire called DESOLDER this copper wire soaks up the old solder, by heating this new desolder the old solder will jump into it and clear your way. I like the Techspray #3 no-clean model 1822-5f
and its made in the USA!
